Hoodlums Invade Corpers’ Lodge in Ishielu…Cart Away Properties

Hoodlums have invaded Corpers’ Lodge at community secondary school, Umuhuali, in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state and carted away their properties.

Narrating the ugly ordeal to the Citizens’ Advocate reporter at the school premises at Umuhuali recently, a victim of the circumstance, Odo Hyginus of Batch C, 2018 said the hoodlum had visited the lodge very close to the school several times and made away with their properties, but 22nd April, 2019 was the time they visited their lodge.

He said, “The hoodlums have visited the lodge close to ours several times, but on 22nd April 2019, the hoodlum invaded our lodge, where 6 corps members are living including one Batch A corps member who just came back from camp few days to Easter.”

“They carted away all our belongings including money, underwear, clothing, cooking utensils, pillow, pillow cases, garri, rice, 2 stoves, gas cooker, shoes, bathroom slippers, textbooks, our original WAEC certificates, brooms, cups and buckets and other cooking condiments.”

Odo Hyginus lamented that the only thing left with him was the shorts and the shirt he was wearing as at the time of interacting with Citizens’ Advocate reporter.

He further stated that the corpers were out on a function as at the time their house was invaded.

“What pained me most is the new corps member, Corper Malam Adamu of Batch A 2019 who just came back from camp and recently posted to the school, but he was robbed barely 3 days in the area, all his belongs, bags, shoes, khaki and money were stolen.” He added

He further said that hoodlum targeted the election periods and visited the lodge while they served at various capacities in the last general elections but on 22nd April, the hoodlums robbed them in their lodge and left them with nothing.

According to Hyginus, they had already reported the matter to the Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) chairman of the community secondary school, Hon. Mathew Nwanga who assured them that the culprits would be tracked down.

It was gathered that a day after the robbery, one of the robbery suspect, Ebuka Nzogbu, 19 from Ama Nzogbu’s compound, Onuoji village was arrested and he gave the names of his gang who are still on the run.

Some items belonging to the corps members were recovered from Ebuka, while one gas cooker was also recovered from the house of their gang leader at Ebiaji 1 village, Umuhuali adding that the 6 of their members are on the run.

Meanwhile, the security outfit in the area said they have spread their dragnets to help the police trace the hoodlums on the run.

The corps members said security of the lodge has been beefed up and they are waiting for the possible recovery of their properties, adding that they require helping hands from the members of the public and well wishers to sustain them since they were left with nothing.
