The Divine mandate super cup competition for state constituencies has commenced in Abakaliki the state capital.
The state final competition which had 25 constituency competing for the trophy including NYSC will end on Sunday 12th May, 2019.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki on the journey so far on Wednesday, the state commissioner for youths and sports development Hon. Charles Emeka Akpuenika, said out of the 25 teams including NYSC, 12 teams have been eliminated, remaining 13 teams which will participate in the second quarter and semi final coming up today Sunday 5th May, 2019. He used the opportunity to announce that about 55 good players have been discovered which would form the state team as earlier directed by the state Governor, Engr. David Umshi.
He said, “So far out of 25 teams 12 teams have been eliminated, we are now working with 13 teams.”
The officials have discovered about 55 good legs and they are still discovering more. The essence was to form a formidable team for Ebonyi state!!
Hon. Akpuenike who commended the state government towards its effort to sports development in the state which has reduced unemployment, assured that ever as the government is transiting to another administration, the ministry will give the state a formidable team that would represent Ebonyi outside the state, pointing that Ebonyi is blessed with talented players.
The commissioner announced that while school in the state will resume on 13th May, the Ebonyi School sports final competition which could not hold last year because political activities will take place between 13th and 15th May.
He explained that in the ongoing divine mandate super cup competition, the players were thoroughly screened to avoid impersonation or other act of social voices form the players. Each player was screened with voters’ card.
“Out of the 26 teams including NYSC, the following made it to second round which would commence on Thursday,
1st Ohauzara East, Afikpo South East, NYSC, Ohauzara West, Ivo, Afikpo South West, Abakaliki North, Ebonyi North East, Ezza South, Ishielu North, Abakaliki South, Ikwo North and Ikwo South.
“The 1st Match is between Ebonyi North East and Ikwo South 10:00 am, Afikpo South West and Ohaozara East , 12pm – 2 pm Afikpo South East Vs Ezza South and 4pm Ohaozara West Vs Ikwo North. In quarter final; which was on Friday 3rd, 8 teams are expected to slug it out for the last 4. The last 4 will play the semi final on Sunday 5th and final competition on 12th May 2019
