Harvest of Vandals, Thieves at Onuebonyi Inyimegu

Six young men said to have specialized in destroying public utilities for their selfish interest and terrorizing residents of Onuebonyi Inyimegu Community with their nefarious activities were on Friday afternoon 17th May, 2019 arrested by youths of the area in Abakaliki.

A stakeholder who pleaded anonymous told Citizens’ Advocate that on the fateful day, the boys numbering over ten who were accused of being in the habit of stealing public belonging were found with different tools destroying some water pipes behind Abakaliki Rice Mill.

He said that following the tip-off given to the village Head, Comrade Ugo Sunday who sent the youths of the community immediately to the facility site and apprehended three persons alongside their tools while the rest fled.

He disclosed that it was in the course of interrogation that the accused persons, Mr. Chidiebere Okafor, an indigene of Awka North LGA in Anambra State and resident of the community alleged to be leader of a notorious gang was discovered.

Mr. Ezekiel Nwonumara, a resident said that beside vandal activities, the boys had made themselves thorns in the flesh of other residents of the area as a night rarely passes without the community experiencing one form of illegal activity or another, adding that the majority of the residents had fallen victim.

Mr. Chidiebere fondly called Aneke in his confessional statement said that his group with a young man popularly called OC Black had involved in numerous criminal activities in the area ranging from armed robbery, tricycle snatching, among others.

He said, “At Ahiamgbede, we normally dispossess people of their valuables and once we are done with our operations, we will then go back to our bunk, situated at a place called Izuogu within the Mill and celebrate our success.”

The accused person revealed that on several occasions, they had stolen live goats along Amachi Road and brought to their bunk where the animals were prepared for refreshment adding that two locally made pistols which they collectively bought at Ezza North Local Government Area with sum of fourteen thousand naira each are in the custody of their gang coordinator, OC Black.

Mr. Chidiebere further mentioned both real and fond names of other gang members to include:

Ajegunle, Cartoon boy, Trigger, Suzaro, Awuru, Thickness, Vampesi, Elo, Bandage, Paapa, Gentle, Ability, Basket, Pepper, Nwanshiko, Opel, Ochiri, Kpantiga, Shawolin, Mad man, mad dog, Dimgba, no mercy among others.

Comrade Ugo Sunday, village head of the area frowned at the rate which his people do fall victim of the accused persons’ criminality and thereby warned all the unscrupulous elements to steer clear or face wrath of the law, when caught.

Citizens’ Advocate gathered that Mr. Monday Nwobasi and Chinwe Nweke arrested in connection to vandalism alongside others accused of theft were immediately handed over to “C” Division police officers for proper interrogation.
