An Abakaliki magistrate court has sentenced a young man aged 28 to 6 months jail for stealing 4 pairs of jean trousers.
The convict, Amaobi Nwankwo on the 6th day of May 2019 at Annan World Fashion Dazzling, shop No 24, Water Works Road, Abakaliki, was said to have stolen the jean trousers valued twelve thousand naira(#12,000.00).
Citizens’ Advocate gathered that the suspect disguised as a customer making selections allegedly wore on top of his own trousers four extra pairs belonging to Annan World and attempted leaving the shop unknown to him that he was being monitored.
Consequently, he was charged to court in one count charge of stealing, during which he pleaded guilty as charged, confessed to have succeeded in two earlier similar visits to the shop.
Speaking with the convict anonymously, he revealed to have sold proceeds from his previous visits at the popular Abakpa Main Market in Abakaliki to unsuspecting buyers at affordable prices and attributed the act to devil and poverty.
Having made the justice delivery faster by pleading guilty as charged, the trial magistrate during judgment sentenced him to six months jail with option of ten thousand naira fine.
