Two young men, Mr. Martin Nwagu and Friday Osim, indigenes of Oriuzor were said to have lost their lives on Monday morning on 3rd June 2019 following the skirmish which allegedly erupted between two suspected cult groups, Ayes and Vikings Confraternity in Ezza North Local Government Area.
A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity told Citizens’ Advocate that the problem was an off shoot of a similar one experienced at Onueke a day before the incident where a staunch member of Viking, Ifeanyi Alegu, was matcheted to death.
To the people of Ezzama community of Ezza South Local Government Area, it was a dark Sunday on 2nd June 2019 as their promising young son, Ifeanyi Alegu (aka Bruno) was sent to the great beyond
Bruno who was a staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, was reportedly shot dead on the chest while eating in a restaurant at Onueke.
Recall that one Mr. Emeka Nwafor alleged leader of Viking confraternity few months ago was murdered by suspected rival cult group at Onueke.
However, Citizens’ Advocate gathered that members of Vikings vowed to revenge the killing of their leader who was butchered to death in a shameful manner.
According to our source who pleaded anonymity for security reasons said that after the incident of the killing Mr. Nwafor that Mr. Alegu (now Late) who was fingered to be a leader of Aye confraternity at Onueke town relocated to Abakaliki where he worked as a staff, Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital until he met his death.
It was revealed that the rival group (Vikings) embarked on revenge mission and used his closest friend to attract Alegu to Onueke where his family resides.
Citizens’ Advocate learnt that when they got information of his presence in the town, the group on Saturday night invaded his compound but was scared away by the family’s dog.
The following day being Sunday morning, our source told us that late Alegu was charging his mp3 music device at Onueke Motor Park and was informed that as he left the point, that a particular guy picked the music device and destroyed it.
He was said to have reported the matter to the boy’s mother before settling there in the park to have his breakfast in one of the canteens.
Our source hinted that as he was washing his hands after eating, he was trapped by a group of men who covered their faces with red barrette and shot three times at him, whereas, one of them brought out dagger and stabbed his neck through his head down the face.
Following our investigation, we further learnt that after the Sunday incident, the two groups on Monday, 3rd June were called for peace talk at Oriuzor Community Secondary School where members were directed to drop their weapons before entering the venue of the meeting but unknown to those at the entrance that one Aye member whose name was not given sneaked in with pistol and on sighting one of the leaders of Viking, popularly known as Mr. Martins or Small Big Man, who is said to be a nephew to former Senator representing Ebonyi Central, Chief Igwe Nwagu, pulled the trigger and killed him on the spot and shot at others who had severe injuries, which made all to flee the scene of the meeting.
Our reporter who visited the area observed massive security presence, as there was palpable fear leading the indigenes to desert part of the town.
He disclosed that the assailants, having seen the seriousness of members of Vikings popularly known as Baggars towards embarking on revenge mission had called for peace talk, but in the course of the dialogue, fight ensued between the groups through which the two persons alleged to be members of Ayes were shot dead by their rival cult group.
He added that the cultists had earlier instructed that none should attend the gathering with any form of arm but the Baggars whom he said were hell bent in retaliating defied the order and as a result gunned down Mr. Martin Nwagu, nephew of Senator Igwe Nwagu and Mr. Friday Osim.
Our source said that members of Ayes in their retaliation attempt declared war against their enemy and as a result began to move into their compounds where great numbers of persons were injured and residents were chased out of their homes.
We gathered that many persons had been arrested in connection to the incident while security officers were seen at all the flash points of the community.
In another similar development, a young man in his late thirties have been strangled and dumped in a bridge at the boundary between Umuhuali and Nkalagu communities.
Mr. Ikechukwu, popularly known as Mr. Lucky, untill his sudden demise was community electric technician widely patronized by all and sundry in Umuhuali community of Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
The services of Lucky who hails from Onunwankwo 1 village of the community were widely sought due to his expertise in the work above his numerous contemporaries in the area.
Lucky who is married to two wives and has about six children was found dead inside the bridge recently in the early hours of the morning with his mate motor cycle kept beside him.
On getting the ugly information and not having another better option, his extended family members brought home his corpse and organized prompt burial in his honour.
