Police to Synergize With Vigilante to End Cultism, Other Vices in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has joined forces with Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ebonyi state chapter to end cultism and all other vices prevalent in the state.

The Police Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Awosola Awotunde made the disclosure at the command’s headquarters in Abakaliki during a courtesy visit by men of Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

CP Awotunde advised them to go through the dictates of the law while discharging their duties by respecting human rights strictly and not taking laws into their hands.

He enjoined them to maintain healthy relationship with other security agencies and not to play the hero but provide prompt and accurate information to the Police for further actions.

The courtesy visit featured questions and answers session where CP and the Police image maker DSP Loveth Odah educated the group on strategies of how best to discharge their duties efficiently and to avoid being victimized by suspects.

Earlier during the visit, the Ebonyi state Commander of VGN, Commander Job Edeh noted that the group is ever ready to assist and compliment police in any areas like intelligence gathering, surveillance, among others to work against the security challenges ravaging the country and reduce it to the barest minimum.

He said, “The Vigilante Group of Nigeria is an incorporated trustee, an informal community policing entity that assist and compliment the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other formal security agencies in curbing the prevailing crime waves and other civil disturbances ravaging the country.”

“As a national grassroots security network, we have been working in synergy with the police, army, DSS and other security agencies to curb the numerous security challenges facing the country. In VGN, we view security as a serious concern to every citizen, so all hands must be on deck for us to curb this monster security challenges ravaging the country.”

“The VGN in Ebonyi state is ever ready to assist and compliment the efforts of the Nigeria police force in any areas needed like patrol, surveillance, intelligence gathering, etc. We have undergone various capacity building and departmental trainings at police colleges in the six geopolitical zones of the nation in order to enhance our performance.”

“Sir, we request that you direct your Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to work in collaboration with our men in the Local Government Areas, as this will help in reducing crime in the those areas.”Commander Edeh added.
