Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, has urged journalists to always use their respective media outfits in promotion of unity and peace in the state.
The Speaker made this call on Thursday 4th July, 2019 at the Assembly Complex, Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki while addressing members of the Association of Izzi Media Workers who paid him a courtesy visit.
Addressing the group, Hon. Nwifuru pointed out that the importance of a journalist in any community cannot be overemphasized, as such, appealed to members of the union to use their respective medium in promotion of unity among Izzi clan and the entire state, respectively.
According to him ” I am challenging all of you to use your respective medium to champion unity in your daily reportage. All of you have great influence in the society and it is a great task to each of you to demonstrate that impact positively for societal growth, peace and unity of Ebonyi State, especially as it concerns Izzi clan since the saying has it that charity begins at home.
The Speaker condemned the activities of external forces who engineer division among the people in order to rob them of their entitlement and urged the people to desist from such.
He urged members of the association cutting across every community in Izzi land and other parts of the country to continue to work as a team, encouraging them to use one voice in building the unity of Izzi Nation and the country at large.
He pointed out that many organizations had in the past made effort to unite the clan but selfishness, greed, and hatred marred their mission, expressing optimism that if newsmen could take cognizance of the sacred nature of their profession in line with their respective media outfits, they would go to any lenght in promoting peace and unity of Izzi clan.
The Speaker called journalists to eschew sentiment in their reportage and maintain ethics of the profession even as they propagate policies of the current government to the hinterland as doing that would affect positively the lives of the people.
Earlier, the president of the Association, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, appreciated the Speaker for the warm reception and for having set a good example which according to him led to his re-emergence as the Honorable Speaker of the State Assembly as well as being elected by his constituents to represent them two times, saying that the feats speak volume of his good leadership quality.
In a remark, a member of the Association and staff Of Nigeria Television Authority, Prince Emmanuel Amadi appreciated the Speaker for the warm reception and assured him that the Association would be ever ready to partner him in rebuilding the clan.
