Aftermath of a peaceful protest by some women from Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State against the proposed airport at Oriuzor community of the state, major stakeholders of Ezza nation led by His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Charles has disassociated themselves from the protest, assuring the Governor of their unalloyed support.
Ebonyi state traditional rulers council chairman (HRH), Charles Mkpuma said the protesters are enemies of progress and doesn’t represent the identity of Ezza nation, Oriuzor community in particular.
The traditional rulers made this known during a solidarity visit to the governor that took place at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital this Monday.
HRH Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma and Eze Nwite Ngele who addressed the Governor in Ezza language noted that the protesters and their sponsors will be fetched out and will pay for daring the decision of the state government to site airport in the said approved community which will bring more development, adding that Governor Umahi’s administration has favoured Ezza nation more than any other government in the state since its creation.
“Those protesting against the siting of airport in Oriuzor community are not from Ezza clan. This is because no reasonable person can object to development no matter what. It is foolishness to do such” he noted.
Reacting, Governor Umahi said work will commence at the said approved airport site next week as the remuneration is ongoing.
According to him, “the airport will open the state to the world, attract investors who will develop the state and it is going to be an international airport.”
He further explained that he will pay full compensation to the affected persons whose land will be used for the airport.
Governor Umahi used the medium to announce that dualization of Onueke/Afikpo road that will start by September, while building of the university of medicine, and airport project and stadium project will commence once and will go on simultaneously.
