A 36 years old man identified as Mr. Emmanuel Chidi, a native of Okaria village in Amachi community of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state has allegedly shot one Ejike Nwugo in place of pigs.
The suspect in the suit numbered MAB/459c/2019 was accused of murder of the deceased on the 23rd day of April 2019 by shooting him with AK 47 riffle at the said village.
Citizens’ Advocate gathered that the suspect had been experiencing invasion and destruction of his crops by pigs in his farm, hence the need to stop the pigs made him determined to kill them.
We learnt the pigs did not just destroy the crops in the farm but almost dismantled all the heaps despite Mr. Emmanuel’s constant efforts to stop them, little wonder he resorted to shoot them dead, but unfortunately the bullet missed its target and killed Mr. Nwugo Ejike.
He thereby committed offence punishable under sections 324 and 319(1) both of criminal code cap 33 volume 1 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009.
Sequel to the development, he was arraigned by police before a magistrate court sitting in Abakaliki.
For the fact that such case is beyond the jurisdiction of a Magistrate court, the trial magistrate ordered his remand in Abakaliki Federal prison.
He instructed the police to forward the case file and all evidences as well as documents in the matter to (DPP) Department of Public Prosecution for further prosecutions.
The matter was adjourned for report of compliance at the high court.
