‘Your Threat Is Empty’, southeast Governors Tell IPOB… Umahi Describes Attackers as Uneducated

The South-East Governors Forum on Sunday 18th August, 2019 said IPOB’s order to its member to attack the governors and other Igbo leaders was an empty threat, even as the attackers have been described as uneducated.
The forum added that attacking the Governors would not solve the problem of their agitation for Biafra.
The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, stated this in a reaction through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Emmanuel Uzo on the attack on Senator Ekeremmadu over the weekend in Germany.
It was alleged that the people who unleashed attack on the former deputy Senate president were members of IPOB.
It was alleged that group said its members are under strict orders from its leader, Nnamdi Kanu to attack Igbo Leaders in any country they are seen for betraying the Igbo cause.
It listed other leaders on its watch list to include Governors David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Willie Obiano of Anambra state, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ohaneze Ndigbo President-General, Nnia Nwodo.
Gov. Umahi said the group lacked the powers to track down any South-East Governor anywhere in the world.
Uzor said, “They have no such spread and powers to track down South-East governors for attack anywhere in the world. They are too small. I don’t want to say they sound so cowardly, but they can’t see the governors to attack.”
Umahi said that the Governors had no problem with the members of the outlawed group to warrant such an order.
According to him, the insecurity in the South-East was a nationwide challenge which was squarely under the Federal Government’s command and control.
“If there is any issue that IPOB holds against the governors, they should come home to settle it in Igboland instead of a foreign land.”
“What happened was a security issue which was within the purview of the Federal Government. Attacking governors in a foreign land is a wild goose chase. We love them because they are our children.”
“IPOB cannot achieve Biafra alone, except with the collaboration of all stakeholders including the governors. They don’t need to attack the governors to achieve Biafra.”
The Governor warned the members of the proscribed body not to allow political opportunists to use them to destroy the South-East.
“They should come together and work with the governors and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to achieve the Igbo Presidency come 2023 instead of fighting the governors. We want them to be close to us instead of taking the struggle to the international arena.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Ebonyi state, Chief Dave Umahi says attackers of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu in Germany at the weekend, are uneducated class of people who don’t represent the true colour of Ndigbo.
The Governor said lack of education brings frustrations and insecurity and that it is what made the said IPOB members to attack the former Senate President.
Umahi spoke in Abakaliki, during the flag-off of Basic Education Service Delivery (BESDA) for school children dropout in the state.
He noted that the nation has a total population 13.5% school dropouts which he described as very dangerous and needs urgent attention.
He said, “We have 13.5% drop out of school children in Nigeria, this is very dangerous. For me, education is everything. Education is health, education is security.”
“I was addressing the press today on the unfortunate attack of our brother, the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Germany. Those that attacked him were not medical Doctors or Engineers or Lawyers or Chief Executives of parastatals or industries.”
“Even if they were least educated people of IPOB members, they wouldn’t do what they did. And so, it is lack of education. Lack of education brings frustrations and that is a clear case of what happened.”
“And so as we make efforts today, to bring back these children who probably would be attacking us in England, or in America tomorrow, we should know that the slogan in our dear state that every child is your child whether is your biological child or not. We should bear in mind that the only way to safeguard the future of your children and your own future and to have a very peaceful evening, is to preserve the future of the children”.
He told the National Coordinator of the Basic Education Service Delivery, Professor Gidado Tahir that the World Bank Assisted Project must be reworked whereby the time the Enugu Airport is closed, security agencies would be deployed to line the route in terms of surveillance and patrolling to protect visitors and people of the zone.
“South East Governors have written to Mr. President, requesting that the closure of Akanu Ibaim International Airport Enugu is so prompt. When you close the Airport and flight diverted to Port-Harcourt to Owerri, it poses a lot of insecurity to our people.
“So, we must be able to rework the programme whereby by the time it is closed, we should work with the security agencies to line the route in terms of surveillance and patrolling to protect the visitors and also our people.
“His Excellency, the Vice President has used the Enugu Airport this year more than myself. So, when you talk about facilities, it is not tailored towards the people, it is for everybody and it is our responsibility to protect all visitors to southeast”, the Governor said.
