The EEDC transformer situated at the Nkalagu Urban was on the 14th August 2019, vandalized by some unscrupulous hoodlums in the area.

This, therefore, caused a total black-out in the areas being powered by the transformer.

Comrade Ali also said that some of the suspects in connection with the vandalization had been arrested through the detectives of the Nkalagu Vigilante, who upon a tip-off swung into action.

He added that the culprits had been sent to Ezillo Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Those so far arrested in the above connection were: Chukwuemeka Eze, Anayo Odo, Matthew Agbo (alias 30) and Araba while one is known as Ejike who was said to be on the run.

The items vandalised include:- Intermediate cable, Up-riser cable, and the amoured cables all estimated at the cost of about N1.2 million.

The Town Union president also revealed that a woman who was said to be patronizing the hoodlums by buying their loots at all times was apprehended through the information from the arrested suspects, by name Mrs. Ginika Nweze whom he said resides in Nkalagu.

It was further noted that as at Thursday last week that Mrs. Nweze was said to have burnt the cables removing the wires inside for use, adding that there was controversy as Matthew Agbo (alias 30) and one of the suspects were said to have collected N20, 000 from Mrs. Nweze for the materials so far supplied.

Comrade Sunday Ali, who was flanked by some of his Exco members and Vigilante during the interview, expressed disappointment over the act as Nkalagu has been known to be very peaceful and calm community in the state with everybody sleeping with two eyes closed.

He further commended the Nkalagu Vigilante for their vigilance, adding that the purpose of forming the security outfit was according to him for the security of lives and property at all times.

Comrade Ali called on the authorities concerned and security agencies in the state and across the country to always take drastic measures against hoodlums to serve as deterrent to others, in other to curb the ugly trend in the society.

The power outage hardly affected the Nkalagu Urban residents, which he said is the heart of the community.

The suspects were already drafted to the state Police Command for further investigation/ interrogations.

Efforts by the reporters to interact with the Ezillo Police D.C.O failed as he was said to be on official engagement.

Meanwhile, the Nkalagu President General and their executives have appealed passionately to the EEDC to stay action of the issuance of bills to the affected area to avoid accumulation of arrears as there has been no light in the area since 14th of August pending the rehabilitation of the installation.

The Town Union further assures the EEDC to have patience with the subscribers of the said transformer pending the repair, in order, not to lure the powers consumers into untold hardship of the unutilized power.

The president also use the same medium to request and appeal to the well-meaning philanthropist, good spirited members of Nkalagu Odeke community, friends and well-wishers to come to their aid to rehabilitate the vandalized Transformer with a view to energizing it to save the subscribers in Nkalagu Urban from the ongoing blackout.

The president further thanked the Chairman, Ishielu L.G.A, Hon. Henry S. Eze whom he said has visited the scene of the incident.

He warned that it may not augur well with a person or group who might vandalize an installation in Nkalagu and urged thieves, robbers to quits Nkalagu or face their wrath hence-with.

The town president also attributed the possible detection and apprehension of the unscrupulous hoodlums in the area to the fervent prayers of the Catholic, Anglican, Methodist and other churches in the area who known most the value of social amenities.

Consequently, the Vigilante at Nkalagu has intensified efforts and beefed up their men to all the nooks and crannies of Nkalagu community to forestall further and future occurrence of that sort, and charged the good citizens of the area to go about their normal business without fear of terror, harassment or molestation by the men of the underworld.
