There was an unusual atmosphere at Amenpko Amasiri in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi on Saturday August 17th, 2019 following an alleged defilement of a 10 year old primary school girl, Amarachi (surname withheld by us) who was sent by the mother to hawk kanda (cooked cow skin used for meat).
A retired police officer and one other suspect have been arrested in connection to the allegation.
Citizens’ Advocate learnt that the minor was sent by the mother to hawk her kanda, which is the business the mother has been into for a long time and the girl was to assist her because of the holiday,
but when the mother waited for her to come back but could not see her, she went in search of the girl and she was found in the house of one retired police officer Mr. Christopher Idam.
The woman raised alarm which made the neighbours to come closer and they saw things with their eyes and arrested the suspect.
A source from the community who pleaded anonymous told Citizens’ Advocate that when the girl was questioned, she confirmed that the retired officer with another suspect Uka Chukwu has been luring her into their house with money and had carnal knowledge of her and that it has been a routine play among them.
The source said that after the girl’s confession, the suspects were handed over to the police for investigation.
The source said, “My sister, on the 17th of August, 2019, two suspects were handed over to police station in Amasiri, Christopher Idam and Uka Chukwu both from Amankpo, Amasiri.”
They were accused of defiling a minor, one Amarachi, 10 year-old. She is on holiday with her mother here. The mother said she sent her daughter to go and sell kanda, but unknowingly to her that she has been in the suspects’ house.
“The mother said she sent the girl to go and sell kanda, but she was lured by the retired Deputy supritendent of Police (DSP), Mr. Idam Christopher, that on interrogation, the child mentioned the second suspect, one Uka Chukwu Uka and confirmed that both suspects usually lure her into their house with money and have canal knowledge of her.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Odah Loveth said, there was a report of rape and police is already investigating the matter.
She said, “The suspects have been arrested and transferred to the police headquarters and statements are being taken from both parties.”
