Council Boss Flags Off N50m Community Development Projects

In line with Ebonyi State government’s plan for rapid development of the state to enviable international heights, the Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Hon Ogbonnaya Chukwuude has flagged off the construction of N50m worth of developmental projects for its five communities.

The five communities according to the council Boss are to get N10m each to fast-tract development of their areas.
At the occasion at the council headquarters, Isiaka, representatives of the five communities which comprise Ishiagu, Ukwue, Ihie, Umuihie, and Akaeze received cheques of startup funds of N5m each and were charged by the council boss to be diligent and judicious with the government development grants.

Community Development Projects

Hon. Ogbonnaya Chukwuude pledged to handover to the communities the remaining N5m each after judicious use of the first disbursement and urged them to execute the projects in accordance with specifications and better practice directives.
He admonished them that good use of the funds will guarantee sponsorship of more community projects from the government but when the fund is not used judiciously, the projects shall be canceled and the funds shall be refunded by the defaulting community up to the last kobo.

 

He said, “The cheques have been written in the names of town unions. We are giving you the sum of N5m for a start. If you execute it according to directives, the balance of N5m shall be disbursed to you. Remember, the supervisory committee shall be up and doing in their job to ensure standards and judicious use of the money within specified project time.”

On his part, the chairman of the council’s supervisory committee, His Royal Majesty Dr. Moses Okafor-Ngele appreciated the governor for having the interest of the local Government at heart and warned the communities to execute the projects to meet standards.

He said, “On behalf of Ezes and citizens of Ivo Local Government Council, I thank the Governor, Chief David Umahi and our chairman for always having our interest at heart, we are so proud of them.”

“My colleagues and I shall be touring the communities to ensure the execution of the projects meet standards. To that effect, I warn them to use that money properly, even if there is need to add their money, they should do it happily for posterity sake.”

Responding on behalf of the five benefiting communities, the town union President general of Ishiagu community, Mazi Elom Nicholas Odike disclosed that his community shall use their fund in construction of students hostel for students of Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu, which will, in turn, serve as means of generating income to establish more projects.

He also thanked the state Governor, Engr. David Umahi for the kind gestures to the rural communities and pledged that the fund would be used judiciously.
