Over 3,000 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Sunday, September 8, dump APC to join People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Okposi Umuogharu, Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
They made their open declaration to join the party during a ground reception of Mr. Mgbada Okechukwu, who was recently appointed by the Governor of the state, Engr. David Nweze Umahi as a member, Secondary Education Board (SEB).
The reception took place at Uwaoma Primary School, Okposi Umuogharu, and was graced by stakeholders of the local government including member, representing Ezza North/East in the state assembly, Hon. Barr. Friday Uhuo.
Uhuo in his remarks stated that Umahi gave them the road, airport, power station and pulverization plant, therefore, they will continue to support his government.
In his address, Mr. Mgbada thanked the Governor for his appointment as member of SEB and assured that the policies of the government will henceforth be redirected to those at the grassroots, as he welcomed members of APC who defected to PDP during the event.
In his words, “Today, we are thanking the Governor for my appointment. The power of Governance is the ability to reach to the grassroots. Today am at the grassroots with my people and I’m promising that the policies of the government will be redirected to the people.”
“Okposi has been collapsed into one party today and it is a great thing and Okposi will continue to be united and we will continue to meet from time to time.”
On her part, a senior citizen of the community, Mrs. Ngozi Oke in her motherly advice, enjoined Mr. Mgbada to assist to reduce unemployment in the Ezza North Local Government Area.
She charged him not to allow the appointment to become a curse to the community and local government in general by planting the seed of discord among them.
Mrs. Oke further urges him to work with others and reunite the people. “Don’t bring divide and rule government, always carry your people along and ensure that Okposi people are united. As you do that God will bless you.” She noted.
Mr. Friday Mgbabor, on behalf of the defectors, said with the appointment of Mr. Mgbada who is a son of the soil have been given enabling environment to follow the party. He called on others still in opposition parties in the state to join them so as to build the community.
Stating he has been in the opposition for over 18 years and there is a need for them to come together.
Kinsley Akam and Mr. Onyekachi Nwoba SA security and public utility, Ebonyi central, to Governor Umahi in their remarks, noted that the ruling party will continue to win in Ezza North because the present government has remembered them in the appointment and in infrastructure development.
According to him, the state government gave them SSG in his first tenure and appointment is still coming, therefore they should pray for the government.
The defectors were received by the PDP ward Chairman, Mr. Edeh Aloh.
Meanwhile, a stakeholder from Okposi Umuoghara Community in Ezza North LGA, Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ngozi Eze has described the recent appointment of Hon. Okechukwu Mgbada, Ex-officio Member, Secondary Education Board (SEB), as an opportunity to reunite the people.
She made the assertion during the ‘Thank you’ party organized by the new appointee to appreciate his people who stood by him throughout the electioneering period.
The former All Progressive Congress (APC), a staunch member noted that Hon. Mgbada started well by bringing together those who were in opposition party with him before their return for the ruling party, nothing that being a good listener would take the new appointee to his place of political dream.
She cautioned him against ill advisers who would soon cluster around him with wrong advice as a way to seek political favor, stressing that creating a job for the teaming jobless graduates should be of his interest for posterity as they would not forget his good deeds.
In his own contribution, the member representing Ezza North in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Nwuhuo extolled Governor Umahi for his love for Okposi Umuoghara Community who is a true beneficiary of the present government in both human empowerment and infrastructural development.
Hon. Nwuhuo emphasized that the season of politicking was over, calling the people irrespective of party afflictions to come together in promoting policies of Umahi led administration to take the state to a great height.
The Special Assistant to the state governor on Internal Security Central and Utilities, Hon. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, (aka Bone) said the appointment of Hon. Mgbada by the state governor has proven that “when the righteous are in power, the people will rejoice”.
He called on the people to keep giving their support to the Umahi led government especially on the airport project as that would bring development in the area.
In his appreciation, Hon. Mgbada commended Governor Umahi for finding him worthy of the post and his love for his people and assured him of Okposi Umuoghara community continual support.
He lauded the state governor for the infrastructural development in the state and thanked his supporters numbering over 300 who defected from APC to People Democratic Party (PDP), assuring them of his continual show of love.
Others who spoke are, Mr. Kingsley Akam, Chairman of the occasion, Ede Alo, ward PDP chairman, and Hon. Friday Mgbabor, who thanked Hon. Mgbada for his love for the people and promised their unalloyed support.
