Estate Surveyors and Valuers Condemn Activities Of Quacks In Ebonyi State…Call for Combined Action With Govt

Professionals, Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ebonyi State Chapter have frowned at the infiltration of nonexperts into their services.
The disclosure was made in Abakaliki by the Chairman of the institution, Estate Surveyor and Valuer (ESV) Henry Odigwe on Saturday 14th September 2019 during the inauguration of new executive members who would pilot affairs of the organization till the next four years.
He further said that he had earlier single-handedly embarked on sensitizations following his passion for the profession and the need to give the residents adequate knowledge of their services and thereby advised that people should desist from patronizing quacks.
He added that the institution had been the only professional body meant to handle people’s properties and other land transactions but because of the residents’ poor knowledge over their occupation, they then opted for nonexperts services at the expense of the professionals.
He expressed delight over the successful election and advised the leaders not to feel that they had arrived rather everyone should intensify effort to ensure that the institution is reconciled with the State government.
The Secretary, ESV Chizoba Emeka Ugwu told us that the institution was established by decree no.24 of 1975 and presently CAP E13, the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in view of that, it works with land and landed activities.
He pointed that by the virtue of his post, he would work in synergy with other general members and relevant agencies to ensure that the institution moves forward while its relationship with the government would be harnessed.
According to ESV Ugwu, compensations from the government over properties, evaluation, land registration, and administration had been their sole responsibilities irrespective of the fact people have not known fully while stating that carrying out sensitizations and other related measures would remain their paramount concern until everyone would become aware.
The immediate past chairperson, ESV (Mrs.) Anthonia Akani described the exercise as the most transparent and thereby commended the electoral committee and the entire members.
She disclosed that they were trained in house management in such a way that problems could hardly be found on the course of discharging their duty and also assured that they would educate the populace over their profession.
ESV Johnbull Amayaevbo,2nd vice president of the institution charged the executive members to toe path of Jesus Christ in the area of humility and make unity their watchword to enable them to achieve their collective goal.
He disclosed their services to include the followings: valuation of assets for various purposes, facilities management, land administration, estate agency, project/investment appraisal, property rating and taxation, environmental assessment and management, acquisition, compensation, resettlement, house development among others.
He, therefore, charged them to add value in the system so that they would always be called upon by government and other similar institutions for professional services and expert suggestions as that according to him would go a long way in curtailing cases of building collapse.
