A group is popularly known as Rotary International Maternal and Child Health Quality Health Assurance in the Obstetrics has donated some hospital equipment and drugs to Ebonyi State government for the improvement of the health of women and children in the state.
The equipment includes suction machine, delivery couches, foetoscope, pulse oximeter, oxygen, Sterilizing drums, and instrument sterilizer among others.
Presenting the items to State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, in his office, Centenary City, the South East Coordinator, Rotarian Action Group for Population and Development, Rotarian Eric Igweshi, stated that the equipment and drugs were to be deployed to their project hospitals in the state, Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Ezzamgbo, and Ikwo General hospitals as well as St Patrick Hospital Mile 4 and General hospital Itim-Ukwu.
Rotarian Igweshi noted that Rotary International has done a lot of programs to curb the menace of maternal and child deaths in the country, especially in the areas of community dialogue, sensitizing people on the issue of family planning and discussion on the safe motherhood.
He mentioned that Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, and 5 other states are beneficiaries of the same amount of equipment, adding that the program would roll over in the next 2 months while the last lap would last for about 24-30 months, involving the whole 36 States of the federation.
He said, “Rotary has done a lot in community dialogue, sensitizing people on family planning and discussion on safe motherhood.”
“Now we are wrapping up our second phase of the project which was almost wrapped up by April this year, but because of one or two logistics problems, it was delayed. And now we want to use the opportunity to deliver it to various states that we are working with. The same amount of equipment goes to Enugu and Anambra, among other states.”
He further assured that Ebonyi State will not be missed out in the program as they would continue to partner the state.
Responding, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike appreciated the group for all the support to the state especially, for the medical equipment and drugs, describing their choice for Ebonyi as a show of love.
Enumerating some of the projects executed by the present administration, Umezurike assured them that the equipment would be judiciously used for the purpose of which they are meant for.
He promised them enabling the environment to function in the state.
“I want to thank you immensely for your support to Ebonyi State, especially for this medical equipment that you have provided.”
Your choice of Ebonyi State is a show of love. You have done quite a number of things, partnering with us and more that is to come. So we thank you and promise you that we will always provide an enabling environment for you to work with us” he said.
The Program Manager, Save 1million Lives, Mrs. Mary Jane Nwiboko lauded the Group for the support, particularly in the area of community dialogue as a wonderful one and solicits for more.
