A young man engaged in his compulsory one year service with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ebonyi State, an indigene of Cross River State, Mr. Obotti Zion E. on Wednesday morning, 2nd October 2019 was said to have slumped and died at Afikpo Road in Abakaliki.
A petty trader in the area told Citizens’ Advocate that the young man came into the depot of a transport company (name withheld by us) obtained ticket and boarded a bus on his own and in the process of waiting for the transport company to conclude all the necessary processes that precede taking off, Mr. Obotti collapsed.
According to our source, instantly NYSC officials were contacted, they quickly rushed to the park and conveyed the victim with their ambulance to Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA) where he was medically confirmed dead.
One of the officials who pleaded anonymity claimed that the man’s death was necessitated by the crisis associated with sickle cell anemia, the dreaded ailment which Mr. Obotti was allegedly battling with before his demise.
Citizens’ Advocate learned that it was a result of the corps member’s health challenge coupled with the crisis which he recently noticed that prompted his journey to enable him to see a medical doctor who had been handling his case in his home town but unfortunately, he could not get home as he eventually slumped and died on his way.
As at the time of filing this report, NYSC officials were making efforts to contact the deceased family.
