He added that as a Governor, he suffers intimidation overseas, an act that is uncalled for.

He said, “We must as Nigerians do everything to uphold our cultural value and better ourselves outside the country. “I get lots of calls from people in Ghana saying many of them are about to be sentenced, some people have been imprisoned for years, some 1000 years and some 500 years imprisonment.”

“And so it is important that as Nigerians, we re-evaluate our status and values because of the ways we are treated, even as a Governor. As a governor, you don’t wear Governor at the airport. We will not continue to live in such a manner that humiliates our nation, it is very important.

He said, “Let me assure Ebonyi people and the entire southeast that the closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport at Enugu was for the safety of our people.”

“As the chairman of southeast governors’ forum, I had a meeting with Mr. President and we have agreed on modalities for quick execution and of course comprehensive overhaul of that airport.”

“We are seeking for special funding with Mr. President and as I travel with him, I will also reveal to him how much we have gone in the release of the funds for the quick completion of that project.”

“We have provided two coaster buses, 10 pickup vans and a brand new liaison zone office in Owerri; this will assist our people to get to Owerri airport.

He further warns against castigating leaders of the country and urged the people to always pray for the leaders.

The Governor further warned workers in the state against lateness to duties, threatening that any worker that goes to work 30 minutes late would not be paid for the month.

He announced that N500 million have been earmarked for training of teachers in the state.

“We will source for more teachers to better the lots of our children. We are not going to sack anyone. We must continue to fight against cultism. But let me say we have not started, we will continue to eliminate cultism in our society”, Umahi said.
