Ebonyi/Benue Boundary Crises: Suspected Warlords Behead 2

Two farmers, Mr. Simon Obasi and Lawrence Omeh both of Ndiegu Akpurata Ukwuagba Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was on 1st October beheaded by suspected warlords from Agila, Ado local government area of Benue State.

Lawrence, 65 and Simon, 62 were beheaded around 12:33 pm on that faithful day, leaving their wives and children in shock and mourning.

The boundary community announced the tragedy at the village square and quickly moved to the place and recovers their corpse and they were buried immediately.

Source close to the community told journalists, that it was terrible and heartbreaking news for the community as everyone had left for the 1st October anniversary and he never expected them to have gone for farming in the disputed land as it was just two weeks away from the killing of ten persons from same community by unknown assailants.

It was gathered that in 2018 about 10 Ebonyi people were killed in the area while in this 2019, 12 persons have been killed despite the efforts of the two states, together with the national boundary commission to end the protracted boundary war.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ebonyi Command, Loveth Odah confirmed the murder and appealed to Ngbo people to stop farming in the disputed lands which have claimed many lives.

She said, “Yes, the DPO of Ohaukwu division, CSP Okey Dieke visited the scene, and observed that the community entered into the buffer zone for farming which triggered the attack.”

“So I don’t know what to say again because more than 10 were killed recently, these people went to the farm around 12 noon for farming in the buffer zone which we have declared a death trap for purposes of farming and the people suspected to have come from Benue beheaded two of them .”

“According to the village head, the dead bodies were recovered the same day and were buried. The DPO led the team to the area and paid a condolence visit to the family on behalf of the CP. The people disobeyed by going to the disputed boundary without going in a group or informing the police and both of them have been killed and beheaded.”

“We are begging people to stop going to that land, even if is not a land, anything under dispute is an exhibit, they should not go there, please! please!! Stop going to that buffer zone, it is a death trap”. Loveth said.
