For total eradication of cult-related activities in Ebonyi State, the Governor, Engr. David Umahi said his government has the plan to introduce whistleblowing against cultists in the state as part of his continuous fight to clampdown the practice of cultism in the state.
This was contained in his remarks on Tuesday during the celebration of Nigeria at 59 and Ebonyi @ 23 at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium Abakaliki.
Governor Umahi noted that though the state government through his empowerment programs has done so much in ensuring that the state gets rid of any form of cultism practice, he is not yet satisfied and as such, will be introducing Whistle Blowing against any form of cultism practice or activities in the state.
He said, “We must continue to fight against cultism, but let me say that the war against cultism has not started in Ebonyi State.”
“To the general public, it appears that we have won the war, but to me, it appears that there is going to be very intensive war against cultism as there will be whistleblowers on any act of cultism.”
“When you have identification on anybody involved in cultism and you get us through whistleblowing, you will have a reward and through this means, we will completely eliminate cultism in our society”, he added.
It could be recalled that the Governor had earlier in his second tenure declared zero-tolerance against cultism in the state even as he warned that cultists will not make his cabinet unless they denounce from it.
The order yielded positive result as youths numbering hundreds voluntarily confessed and denounced the practice in Christ Embassy Church, and was baptized by Pastor Eunice Oyeyemi.
Similar action also took place in Ezza South, one of the Local Government Area rankings high in cultism in the state.
Umahi has always maintained that no one who shed another man’s blood can go scot-free without confessing and denouncing from such act and no successful man thrives through cultism.
