The Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Francis Nwifuru has doled out cash and relief materials to some victims of 2019 election violence in Izzi Local Government Area to alleviate their plights.
The eleven victims at Izenyi village in Offia Onwe and Mgbo Agbaja wards of the area received 6 bundles of roofing sheets and N200,000, cash.
The State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi who was among the people who accompanied the Speaker was not left out as he promised to build three rooms and parlor apartments for the most indigent of them all while the local government council chairman, Hon Paul Nwogha gave them N10,000 each to help them reconstruct their houses.
The victims whom smiles were put on their faces from Offia Onwe and Mgbo Agbaja wards include Ekuma Linus O, Iyede John, Iyede Donatus, Nwogha Peter, Nwite Emeka, Ekuma Ephraim, Iyede Sunday, Ogbaga John, Ofoke Obinn, Alieze Sunday and Ekuma Fidelis.
Also at Mgbo Agbaja ward, the Speaker who is a native of the area condemned in the strongest possible terms, the nefarious acts of those engaging in political violence, irrespective of the parties and donated 10 bundles of roofing sheets and cash sum of N500,000 to the family of David Mbam whose father died following the burning of three houses in their compound.
Chief Nwifuru described the act of violence as unacceptable and condemnable before God and man and advised everyone irrespective of party affiliations and ideologies to shun electoral violence and always play the game by the rules.
The Speaker explained that the relief materials and cash will not bring back the dead or replace in entirety the destroyed property but is meant to alleviate their plights and assured that only healthy politics will quicken the growth of Ebonyi state.
The Speaker said, “I had always thought of how to soothe the sorrows of families whose houses were burnt and properties destroyed by heartless people all in the name of politics during the previous election in Izzi Local Government Council of Ebonyi State.”
“It was an outpour of mixed sensations at Izenyi village in Offia Onwe ward and Mgbo Agbaja ward of the area.”
“By God’s Grace, at Offia Onwe ward, I gave 11 of the victims 6 bundles of zinc each and N200,000 each, while the Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Hon. James Paul Nwogha gave them N10,000 each to help them reconstruct their houses.
The State Chairman of our great party PDP, Chief Barr. Onyekachi Peter Nwebonyi also promised to put up three rooms and a parlor for the most indigent of them all.

“Our gifts to the victims will not resurrect their lost loved ones or other valuables destroyed in the terrible incidents, but we believe it will go a long way in alleviating their plights. This is to let them know that the Government, our party and I will always stand by them in trying times. Let us continue to love one another and play healthy politics for the growth of Ebonyi State.
