A road accident involving blue Primera Car with the registration number ‘Anambra AP816AWK and Tricycle on Monday morning 16th September 2019 left the operator and his passengers badly injured in Abakaliki.
A resident of the area who was also an eye witness, Mr. Atam Offoma told Citizens’ Advocate reporter who visited the scene that the crash was remotely caused by a big pothole found at the beginning of the double lane within the place called police Junction allegedly created by a construction company working in the area.
He told us that the driver was already on high speed when he noticed the situation at the junction and in his attempt to bypass the pothole, he then lost control of the vehicle, ran into the opposite lane and knocked down the keke with its occupants.
Mrs. Cecilia Eze, a resident of the area and an eye witness told Citizens’ Advocate that when the car hit the tricycle, the force at which the car hit it was so much that it hurled it at a building fence within the scene, which left the occupants with high degrees of injuries inflicted on them.
She disclosed that immediately the driver saw the magnitude of the havoc, he left the scene in a hurry to avoid lynching him and the victims were hurriedly taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Another resident who pleaded anonymity frowned at the low pace of work in the area and hereby apportioned blame on the construction workers whom he said after they had dug the pit failed to put caution signs.
He, therefore, thanked God as the crash was not fatal and advised both motorists and other road users to always be conscious of their speed mostly when they are within the metropolis.
