During matter of urgent public importance, the Chairman House Committee on Security, Public Petition, Justice and Judiciary and member representing Ezza North East – Hon. Barr. Friday Nwuhuo, moved a motion for the money meant for farmers in the rural areas in the state for agricultural produce to be diverted to construction of Agricultural feeder roads, as previous experiences have shown that those funds were mismanaged by local authorities and got to farmers very late.

Barr.Nwuhuo said, “In the last tenure, the Governor in his magnanimity disbursed billions of naira to farmers in our local areas to enhance agricultural produce, but it was generally observed that the fund usually gets to farmers in the rural areas late and often times, the funds are being mismanaged by the local authorities.”

“In view of the foregoing, Mr. Speaker, I wish to move a motion that in the light of the upcoming loan in the state, in support of agricultural produce, the said fund be converted to construction or building of our agricultural feeder roads instead of disbursing it to farmers late and giving it to those who will mismanage it. Because I believe Mr. Speaker that in construction of our feeder roads, it will be more profitable to our farmers in the local areas.”

Seconding the motion, the Chairman House Committee on Education and member representing Ezza South – Hon. Christian Usulor in pursuance to sections 121 and 120(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which empowers the State House of Assembly to approve the withdrawal and disbursement of such funds gave his consent.

Furthermore, the legislators gave a nod to spending of the sum of N111,800,000.00 on appreciation and donation to the state past and present leaders to take care of their health and other needs.

They also gave approval for state donation of N51,000,000.00 to her Excellency, wife of the governor, Mrs. Rachael Umahi’s pet project, a Family succour and upliftment foundation

At the committee of the whole, the house in its first plenary after two months recess, screened and confirmed 50 out of 51 second batch nominees of Governor David NwezeUmahi, as Development Centre Coordinators.

In a petition signed by Ngbo East ward’s PDP chairman, Mr. Kenneth Eze, secretary and women leader, sent to the Speaker and read during the screening exercise, the coordinator nominee  forNgbo East development center, Mr. Joseph Onwe was accused of being a cultist of the Ayes confraternity and was sacked from civil service in the year 2017 for forging the signature of the state’s then Chief Judge Justice Alloy Nwankwo.

To that effect, the Speaker, Hon Francis Nwifuru and other legislators stepped down his screening in order to embark on intense investigation on the matter, since he failed to seek redress in a competent court of justice since the pronouncement in 2017.

Responding, the nominee, Mr. Onwe debunked the allegations, saying he was not a cultist, was not sacked from Ebonyi state judiciary but suspended indefinitely and he was not guilty as charged in 2017.

Meanwhile, Citizens’ Advocate observed that some of the nominees were not conversant with the number of polling units, wards in their areas as well as explanation of what mother tongue, agriculture, government and economics were.
