A 7 year old girl, Miss Ndidiamaka Igboke and resident of Ugwu Achara said to have been missing but later found through the help of Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development was handed over to her parents in Abakaliki on Tuesday 23rd October 2019.
Addressing newsmen during the handover, Mr. Igwe Godwin, Head of Department, Child Development of the ministry told Citizens’ Advocate that the girl was picked at Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu LGA by a Good Samaritan and brought here so she could be given temporary custody until her parents would come for collection.
He said that for the past three weeks which she was brought to the ministry, the officials had made several publicity through radio, television and another medium over her whereabouts until recently when her father, Mr. Moses Igboke Nwojiji came and identified her.
According to Mr. Igwe, before then, the ministry had reported the incidence to the police so that none of the staff would be accused of child abduction while they had been taking care of the girl, courtesy of the government.
He attributed the girl’s action of running away from home to the marital problem existing between her parents.
She left home principally to search for her mother but got lost on the way.
He, therefore, warned the man to always look after the victim and her younger siblings.
Mr. Igwe also advised parents generally to learn how to resolve marital issues amicably because once it escalates, it would affect children both psychologically and otherwise.
The little girl, Miss Ndidiamaka when asked told us that she was looking for her mother and along the line got missing.
Mr. lgboke expressed happiness over his found child.
He appreciated the staff of the ministry and promised to be giving the children adequate time and attention to forestall reoccurrence.
