2 Remanded for Robbing Police Officers

Ebonyi State Command on Friday, October 30th, 2019 arraigned one Success Nwankwo, 19 and one Uchechi Chijioke, 16, for their alleged involvement in robbing two police officers in the state.

They were accused of terrorizing the vicinity, making the residents uncomfortable until when luck ran out against them and they robbed two police officers.

The two suspects were arraigned before an Abakaliki Magistrate’s Court on five counts bothering on stealing, burglary, felony and conspiracy, Charge no 769c/2019.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Effiong told the court that the suspects committed the offense on October 26, 2019, at Okposi Street, Off Nkaliki Road Abakaliki, in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects were accused of entering into the home of a police officer, Inspector Peter Offor and allegedly stole the sum of N85,000.

That the suspects also robbed another policeman, one Sergeant Onen Eyong, of his 17 inches Plasma television, Tecno phone, and other items.

The IPO said the offense was punishable under sections 516A (a), 411 (1), 411 (2) and 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap, 33, Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

The charge sheet states, “That you Success Nwankow ‘M’, Uchechi Chijioke ‘M’ and others now still at large on the 26th, day of October, 2019, at Okposi Street Abakaliki in the Abakaliki Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Burglary/stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol 1. Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

“That you Success Nwankwo ‘M’, Uchechi Chijioke ‘M’ and others now at large on the 26th day of October 2019 at Okposi Street Abakaliki, in the aforementioned Magisterial District did break and enter into the dwelling house of Police Inspector Peter Offor with intent to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 411 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol 1. Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

“That you Success Nwankwo ‘M’, Uchechi Chijioke ‘M’and others now at large on the 26th day of October, 2019, at Okposi Street Abakaliki in the aforesaid Magisterial District having entered the dwelling house of police inspector Peter Offor ‘M’ with intent to commit felony therein break out from the dwelling house and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 411 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 33 Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

“That you Success Nwankwo ‘M’, Uchechi Chijioke ‘M’ and others now at large on the 26th day of October, 2019, at Okposi Street Abakaliki in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal cash sum of N85,000, only property of Inspector Peter Offor ‘m’ and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

“That you Success Nwankwo ‘M’, Uchechi Chijioke ‘M’ and others now at large on the 26th day of October, 2019, at Okposi Street Abakaliki in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal 17 inches Plasma television valued at N40,000, TECNO phone valued at N10,000, Nokia phone valued at N10,000, totalling N70,000, property Sergeant Onen Eyong ‘M’ and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”

Citizens’ Advocate learned that the Chief Magistrate, Ruth Nwali, in her ruling, directed that the accused be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, while their case file transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state, for advice.”

The matter was adjourned to December 30, 2019, for hearing.
