NIESV Calls for Partnership with Police

Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ebonyi State Chapter through its professionals have requested for collaborative work with the officers of Nigeria Police Force.

This was made known on Tuesday 5th November 2019 during the professionals’ familiarization visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police Command in Abakaliki.

Addressing newsmen, the Chairman of the Institution, ESV Henry Odigwe said that the event was prompted by their desire to work hand in hand with police so that their expert services could easily be engaged by the security agents whenever the need arises.

He stated that NIESV members are ever ready to render consultancy services to the police in the areas of Estate development and real estate investment in addition to their professional knowledge in providing proper maintenance work at barracks, headquarters and other structural assets owned by the personnel.

The Chairman also enumerated their other professional roles to include proper valuation of properties, taking a comprehensive inventory of police assets, project management for both individual and the command as well as selecting suitable land for structural projects.

He said, “When it comes to consultancy services and offering of professional advice concerning land use and landed properties, we are the right persons to be called upon. We are also in the best position to select land for projects.”

He further pointed out that their services are not limited to structural properties only, but they could as well evaluate vehicles and other properties before insurance could be made.

He appealed to the police boss for adequate security over his colleagues and their belongings at all times.

The NIESV Secretary, ESV Chizoba N. Ugwu in his speech said that the professionals were trained in national land resource development and management together with offering advice to the government on land and housing policies and their implementations.

He disclosed that some police commands might feel reluctant to give up control and management of their quarters to the professionals without considering the fact that the sad state of those properties clearly indicates their need to be handled by the experts.

ESV Chizoba said, “It can be observed that either complete lack or inadequate living space among police officers is one of the causes of psychological difficulties in rendering their services appropriately to the nation.”

The Secretary added that his colleagues were not only trained skillfully but also licensed and equipped principally to offer valuation services for various purposes which include mortgage, sale and purchase, merger, asset sharing, probate, taxation, insurance, compensation, rental among others.

He said that his members, having seen that police property could not be managed impressively by nonprofessionals, they deemed it necessary to identify with the police officers to provide them with the needed services.

“We believe that when professional service is given to the command, it will boost the morale of the officers, we can also evaluate properties of Nigeria Police Force, prepare its inventory in such a way that the command will know its assets”, he said

ESV (Mrs.) Ugwuocha Nnenna commended the commissioner over a high level of security recorded since his assumption of office in the State while condemning the rate of quacks found in their profession.

She advised that members of the public should desist from patronizing nonprofessional services as they are characterized by dishonesty, fraud and other related acts.

Commissioner of Police, Awosola Awotunde appreciated the professional body over the visit and assured the members of his collaboration.

He advised them to strive and expunge the institution of quacks to enable them to serve the public professionally.
