About 1200 students of Ebonyi Local Government Area studying in different tertiary institutions of the country have benefited from bursary award from the council chairman, Mrs. Chinyere Nwaogbaga.

The bursary award was flagged off by the chairman on Tuesday 12th November, 2019 at Ugbodo, the council headquarters with students of Echiaba Development Centre and Ebonyi Development Centre. However Ebonyi Local government has 4 development centres and the remaining two were paid on Wednesday.

Addressing the students during the flag off, the Chairman, Mrs. Nwaogbaga noted that it has always been her desire to reach out to all the students of Ebonyi Local Government and beyond because she believes that the best empowerment to a youth is to support the education of the person.

While encouraging the female students to study hard and rise above their folks, she advised the male students to shun cultism as it will bring an end to their career.

She said the bursary will be a continuous process so long as the economy improves even as she commended Governor David Umahi and his wife for their love for education in the state.

About ten indigent students of the local government were earlier given scholarship by the council chairman while many were assisted to pay their school fees and go for law school for law students.

Mrs. Nwaogbaga commended the erstwhile chairman of the council, Prof. Adeze Nwuzor and other principal officers of the local government for their support to her administration.

Law and medicine students went home with N15000 while others were paidN10,000 each.

She said, “I gave scholarship to ten indigent people, that is to encourage and motivate them to go to school, I picked from the less privileged families, most downtrodden.”

“I have equally rendered financial assistant to our students, they are so many that I cannot name them all in Ebonyi local government. It is my desire and it gives me joy to see that our people further their education.”

“I want to thank Engr. David Umahi who has given me the opportunity to serve my people and I want to thank my people, the people of Ebonyi local government for their support, for their advice.”

“This bursary award that we have started today is going to be a continuous exercise. I will try to ensure that everybody captured is paid.”

“I also appreciate the wife of the Governor who has always encouraged me to ensure that girl child education is not what we can play with and there is a program that is going on called ‘the best Education for All’, enrolling school dropout children and we are doing our best to ensure that our children go back to school and today we have recorded success. It is free both their school fees and uniform, writing materials, I commend the Governor for that.”

“Today we are emulating the footsteps of the Governor, it has always been my desire to extend my administration to the students and downtrodden.

Since inception of my administration, I have helped a lot of students in many ways, some to pay school fees, some to gain admission, I have helped so many that I cannot mention all of them off hand but for the payment of this bursary, it has always been my desire, my prayer and I thank God that today it has come to reality.”

Prof. Adeze Nwuzor and Barr. Nicholas Nwode commended the chairman for her leadership strides and urged the students to keep the flag of the local government flying by studying hard to become the best graduating students in their various institutions of learning.

They noted that Mrs. Nwaogbaga has touched many lives within her few years in office and has brought infrastructure development to more rural areas of the council.

One of the beneficiaries, a law student of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Okemini Divine Favour said he will aspire, not limiting  himself to his field of study but to other areas and be able to stand for the less privileged persons in the local government and beyond and that he will make judicious use of the money.

On their part, Medicine and Surgery students, EBSU, Kelvin Nwoghia and Ngbogo Eucheria Nneka thanked the chairman for the bursary saying that the last time it was paid to students was during their secondary school days.

They promised not to let the people of Echiaba and Ebonyi local government down by studying hard to make the best out of their studies.
