Four people have been docked in an Abakaliki Magistrate court for disobeying the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari by importing 388 bags of banned foreign rice into Nigeria.
The accused persons, Mr. James Eke, Koko Simeon, Zayol Nathaniel and Achi Richard in the suit numbered MAB\805c\2019 were accused of conspiracy and disobedience to lawful orders of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
They were in the two-count charges suit said to have committed the misdemeanor on the 9th day of November 2019 along Afikpo Road in Abakaliki.
They thereby committed offenses punishable under sections 517(a) and 203 both of the criminal code volume 1 cap 33 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009.
During their arraignment before magistrate court presided over by His Worship, Magistrate Ruth Okeh on the 12th day of November 2019, the trial magistrate granted the accused person bail in the like sum of N500,000.
The bail conditions read that the surety must be grade level 14 civil servants who must be resident and work within the jurisdiction of the Court, surety to deposit a letter of identification from the employer and to deposit two affidavits of means.
Consequently, at the time of filing this report, the accused persons were already locked up in Abakaliki branch of Nigeria Correctional Service center for inability to meet up with the bail conditions.
The charge read this in part, “That you James Eke, Koko Simeon , Zayol Nathaniel and Achi Richard on 9th day of November 2019 along Afikpo road Abakaliki did without lawful excuse disobeyed orders of the Executive President and Commander- in – Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by importing 388 bags of foreign rice into Nigeria and thereby committed offences punishable under section 203 both of the criminal code volume 1 cap 33 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009.”Follow us
