A young aged man, Mr. Obinna Boniface 32, of Igidagu village, of Okpitumo Community in Abakaliki LGA, Ebonyi State, was arrested by the youths of Egwudinagu village in Amachi of same council area for allegedly stealing a ram belonging to Mrs. Agnes John.

It was gathered that the man was caught right inside Nwanwu Market in Egwudnagu village around 9:00 pm with stolen ram when he was about to escape.

After he was apprehended, he was beaten blue-black by the enraged youths who interrogated him to make some confession as they claimed the popular junction has had several accounts of untraceable lost property.

However, Mr. Obinna Boniface told Citizens’ Advocate that he was a wheelbarrow pusher and was coming home from Abakaliki when he ran out of cash and decided to go on foot.

On reaching Egwudinagu, popularly known as Nwanwu Junction, he got tired and he entered a closed shop in the market to take some rest, it was then that a group of youths came and began to interrogate him.

He said they forced him to take the said ram to their village assembly ground and accused him that he was a thief.

Efforts made to convince the youths proved abortive as they insisted he stole the ram and descended on him by flogging him with heavy stick the whole night without food.

According to him, the ram was in group and he was forced to untie one out of them and follow the youths with it to the playground where they unleash mayhem on him.

Mr. Obinna lamented how he was intimidated and forced to admit he stole the ram coupled with the severe beating he received as an innocent person, a treatment which he termed high handed injustice from the village youth.

Meanwhile, a resident of the Area who did not want his name in print hinted us that he told Egwudinagu youth not to beat the young Obinna, that he is mentally deranged and never seen him steal, recalling that due to his lunacy he usually sleeps by the roadside.

When contacted, the father of the victim, Mr. Boniface, frowned at the attitude of the youths of the area adding that his son Obinna is not a thief, rather, he has mentally illness and warned them to give his son proper treatment before it will cause crisis between the two villages.
