A driver of white Mercedes 190 whose identity could not be confirmed, on Friday morning 3rd May, 2019 escaped death after his vehicle lost control and ran into a ditch at Waterworks Road in Abakaliki.
Mr. Okpanku Christopher, a resident of the area told Citizens Advocate that the man was driving towards CAS area through Waterworks Road when suddenly he lost control of the car in a manner suspected to be caused by phone calls and as a result fell inside the mini bridge.
He also disclosed that in spite of the nature of the crash and damage on the vehicle, the man came out of the car unhurt.
He said, “I was sitting in my shop but before I knew what was happening, this vehicle that was formerly moving gently on its lane suddenly lost control and fell into the ditch there.”
Mr. Okpanku further thanked God for the man’s life as passerby was neither hurt nor injured during the incident.
Mr. Echezona Dickson, a petty trader in the area who was a witness to the accident advised people, especially the motorists to always adhere to instructions and enlightenment of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnels, stating that making or receiving calls while driving should be avoided.
We gathered that shortly after the incident, the number plates of the car were removed for the reason best known to the owner.
