In celebration of the World Red Cross day, the President, Red Cross Society Ebonyi state chapter, Mr. Simeon Nweze has appealed for public support to raise additional structure to decongest the Motherless Babies Home located at No. 3 Nsugbe Street, Abakaliki Ebonyi State.

Speaking to Citizens’ Advocate, the newly elected branch president, Mr. Simeon said that the home currently is faced with serious challenge ranging from congestion of the home and financial assistance to provide necessary amenities needed for the children.

He said the number of the children in the home was above 20 as at the time of gathering this report and maintained that it was unhealthy to accommodate more than fifteen children in the room.

He said, “The number of the children in the home is above 20 and it is unhealthy to accommodate more than fifteen children in the room, if not for non availability of additional apartment to care for the children and members of staff, therefore, the home now housed double of its supposed capacity.”

He hinted that this year’s global celebration of the organization has challenged not just their members but the entire public to show more love to humanitarian service as that is the greatest sacrifice to humanity.

Mr. Nweze stated that though the organization is non profitable one, but would ensure that his team of executive would invest the necessary resources to reawaken spirit of love and promotion of mutual understanding among members and general public.

However, the National Development Adviser and Board member, Mr. Emmanuel Nworie harped on the need to make a shift with date of the celebration should it fall on working days for it has affected members’ participation, as he thanked Ohaukwu branch for their contributions.

Earlier in his address, the state secretary, Red Cross Society Ebonyi Branch, Elder Raphael Chikwendu Okorie, said the Motherless Babies’ home since its establishment has been growing from strength to strength even as all the seasoned administrators who had handled its leadership load left indelible marks for others to emulate.

He prayed for the continuous existence of in depth cordiality that existed among governing body, management and volunteers.

Elder Okorie appreciated members for the branch peaceful and successful election that ushered in new executive and called for members support to enable those elected into power to achieve the organizational goals and aspirations.
