A single mother one miss Chinasa Ofoke native of Ogbala ishieke of Ebonyi local government area has expressed gratitude to God for making her one year and ten months old son has natural dreadlock (dada)hair which saved him from being sold by a gang of child thieves.
The petty trader’s joy knew no bounds for the rescue of her son from her “fiance” who stole and took him from her Ekwilimmiri street resident here in Abakalilki to Port Harcourt , Rivers state for sell,but he ran short of luck as the planned buyer refused to buy the baby because he has natural dreadlocks hair( Dada).
According to her during interview with Citizens Advocate, the rescued baby little master Olisaemeka Ofoke on 31 October 2019 was left in the custody of first accused person in the matter numbered MAB \ 851c \2019 36 years old Nduka Uzor who proposed marriage to her two months ago,she innocently went to wash their dirty clothes since the baby was having diarrhea, but he was unfortunately stolen and not seen for many days till divine intervention.
Chinasa said she got to know Nduka two months ago when they fell in love unknown to her that his target was to steal and sell her only son.
Nduka was caught alongside his partner in crime Chimezie Christopher the second accused person at Port Harcourt, Rivers state and arraigned before Abakaliki Magistrate court on 25th November 2019 in three count charges of child stealing, unlawful confinement and deprivation of the minor from the parent’s liberty and care.
They thereby committed offenses punishable under sections 516A(a),371(a) and 365 all of the criminal code cap 33 volume 1 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009.
The defense counsel Onah Esq appeal to the court for bail of the accused persons stating that they had no previous criminal record and have reliable sureties.
On his part, the police prosecutor opposed the bail application insisting that they shall jump bail and revealed that they are not residents within the jurisdiction of the court but works as syndicate from Abia state, Port Harcourt , Ebonyi state and was arrested at Porthacourt as they went for transactions.
He appealed that instead of granting them bail, the accelerated hearing should be done on the matter to obtain justice for the innocent one year and ten months old minor.
The trial magistrate chief magistrate Nnenna Onuoha after hearing from the defendants who pleaded not guilty,granted them bail in the tune of two hundred thousand naira in like sum,accused to produce sureties resident within jurisdiction of the court, sureties to be owners of landed property which must have certificate of occupancy,sureties to show evidence of tax payment for three years.
Considering the tender age of the complainant , the matter was adjourned to a later date and transferred to Family High court sitting in Abakaliki for private hearing
