Fr. Godwin Oluoha, of secret Heart parish Onueke, Ezza south has emerged 2019 Abakalili best priest award.
Rev. Fr. Godwin Oluoha ordened priest 37 years ago , was the 15th priest to receive the award annually organized by Regina Pacis foundation Okpoduma- Agbaja Nwofe, Izzi local government area.
Most Rev. Michael Nnachi Okoro Catholic Bishop of Abakalili during the mass celebration, commended the host Sir Edward Nkwegu for using his wealth and talent to promote evangelism in the cathedral.
The awardee in his speech, said he was deeply rooted and founded in gratitude to God who made him . He prayed that on the last day God will open himself to the priests who are working in his vineyard on earth, ( as he did to the disciples).
” Sir Edon you do this thoroughly and willingly, you choose to promote evangelization using what God has blessed you with. May God always replenish your .
“My prayer is that on the last day we all will be found worthy to meet with Lord. Amen.” He prayed.
Meanwhile, An industrialist, Arc Edward Nkwegu on Thursday 21st Nov, 2019 described poverty as the major cause of societal ills which can be addressed through skill acquisition programs.
Sir, Nkwegu , the CEO Edon Ng Ltd. in a paper presentation tagged Trained-Skill and skill Acquisition : A tool for self- sustenance and Antidote to poverty, during the 15 anniversary of Regina Pacis foundation at Regina Pacis villa, Okpoduma- Agbaja Izzi Ebonyi State, pointed that poverty is the reason for greed and corruption in low and high places in the society.
Regina pacis foundation established fifteen years ago targets at giving people a spotless mirror of working to be self reliance.
He maintained that poverty brings men so much suffering and humiliation among its peers that is why the foundation is imbibing on the youths under the foundation with basic physical, spiritual, mental and emotional intelligence for self reliance.
“Fear of poverty originated by the fact that most men in their superior sense of intuition, thought and reason, does not eat his fellow men bodily, he gets more satisfaction out of eating them financially.The society seems to have evolved into the age of ” money worship”.
” Nothing brings men so much suffering and humiliation as poverty. A man is considered of less value than the dust of the earth unless he displays evidence of wealth. No wonder man fears poverty. The truth is that there is no freedom for the man who is afraid to face tomorrow”. He noted.
The industrialist who is also a chieftain of All Progressive Congress in Ebonyi further explain that to solve the problem, that foundation established a vocational training institute with the view that the over 100 young youths which have enrolled as students, will become rich in few years to come because knowledge is the new money.
Some of the vocational school students: Odii Adeze precious from Isuachera, Ohauzara Local Government Area student of catering craft practice; Mgburuma Israel Ekene and Nwede Chiamaka from Izzi, commended Arc. Nkwegu for establishing the foundation as it will give them the opportunity to employ others.#
St. Mary’s Catholic Parish Afikpo Breaks the Jinx win 2019 Diocesan Choir Trophy

St. Mary’s Catholic church Afikpo has emerged overall champion in the 2019 Catholic Diocese of Abakalili Diocesan Choir competition which took place at St. Augustine’s Seminary School Ezzamgbo last Saturday.
Citizens’ Advocate, reports that the pro-cathedral broke the Jinx to win the trophy in group “A” since inception of the diocesan competition .
St. Patrick’s Eziulo got first position in group “B” category while St. Molumbas’ parish Azuiyokwu won the first position in group “C” and St. Theresas’ cathedral Abakaliki got 2nd position in group A.
9 parishes , three from each zone participated in the competition. There are, St. Theresas’ Cathedral Abakaliki, St. Mary’s pro cathedral Afikpo, Assumption Catholic parish Abina Ikwo, St Molumbas’ parish Azuiyokwu, St. Patrick’s Ezziulo, St. Steven Nwofe, St. Patrick’s Afikpo, Queen of Apostles Ohauzara and St. Charles Nsukara.
Speaking during the Competition, Rev. Fr.Daniel Ofuluzor , Chairman diocesan liturgy and music commission thanked God for making the competition which had started the parish level to end successfully.
He noted that Singing is part and parcel of religion “you have to sing to the lord in worship, When you are singing, you are doing two things at same time as st. Augustine said that he who sings prayers twice. So really is very important that is why we do this”.
According to him, The choirs, mass servers, lay readers and church wardens are strictly attached to the Eucharist hence were their blessings comes from and they are taken care of by the parish council.
Cathedral choir leader, Mr. Peter Oke ( Uncle P) expressed Joy that Ebonyi south win the trophy for the first time since the diocesan competition started and encourage them to keep thethe candle burning.
Leader of the overall winner Mr.Henry Ezeora described the success as result of hardwork pointing that the choristers never relented from the beginning of the competition through the parish level the final competition.
He advocated for training and retraining of choirseters in the cathedral from their different parishes.
