Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, has charged students all over the Federation not to count the challenges encountered in the course of their studies as hardship, but see every challenge as an opportunity to make their future shine.
The governor who was ably represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima gave the charge at the 8th Matriculation Ceremony of Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ngbo.
Responding to the welcome address, Dr. Chima thanked the management and staff of the institution for their steadfastness that transformed the institution formerly known as School of Health Sciences and Technology, Ngbo.
He said that the academic institution established in 2007 was passed into law and assented on 5th May, 2019 as law, adding that credence should be given to the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Dr. Sam Egwu that created the school and the amiable Governor Engr. David Nweze Umahi, who made the school a college for Ebonyians.
The Commissioner said that Governor Umahi attached much importance on the institution that has three essential departments: Community Health Department, Environmental Health Department and Health Information Management Department.
Thinking back on the days of guinea worm scourge, he said the problem was largely solved through the technocrats trained in the school.
Dr. Chima advised the School Management on the need for the formation of Governing Council because that would help ratify some of the issues raised as challenges in the college.
He pointed out that there should be a strong synergy between the school management, the State Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health so that all academic paraphernalia required would be provided by the State Government.
Dr. Chima pledged that he would deliver all request made by the institution to His Excellency, David Nweze Umahi who is in a haste to develop the state.

He said that a total of 350 students were being admitted in this year’s academic session into three (3) major departments.
According to the provost, the school has produced men and women who are academically qualified and equipped to compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world.
Dr. Stephen counted numerous success stories to include but not limited to the speedy passage of the Bill that established the institution, stressing that the efforts of the able Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogbonnaya Nwifuru and the support of the Education friendly, workaholic and health conscious Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi made that feat realizable.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ezeora Christ Achi described the State Governor Engr. Nweze Umahi as a man after God’s own heart, noting that the Governor has made Ebonyi State proud in all ramifications.
He urged the matriculants to take their studies very seriously and not to depend on examination malpractice for it will do them no good.
He implored them to see their studies as a vocation of long journey that will have success as end result, adding that character and learning are two things that make a man, as without good character you cannot bend down to read and if you come out without a good certificate the society may not accommodate you.
Also contributing, the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Blessing Ezeoke thanked Governor Umahi for his efforts towards human and infrastructural development, pointing that Ebonyi at any point in time will not lack people that will continue to develop the state.
