Nwabooro Ifesinachi Gloria has emerged the winner of Miss Nollywood Ebonyi, 2019 conducted by Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abakaliki Branch at International Conference Center (ICC), Abakaliki, on Sunday 2nd December, 2019.
Gloria emerged the winner, beating the eight other contestants: Igwe Heartfree, Eze Sophia Akunna, Igwe Amarachi Esther, Nwachukwu Mercy, Nwuzor Ezinne, Eze Blessing, Ezeojiri Chidimma and Ibemgbo Blessing.
Nwachukwu Mercy emerged the first runner up while Ezeojiri Chidimma, emerged the second runner up of 2019.
One of the heroes of Nollywood in the country, Chief Pete Edochie, speaking at the event commended Engr. David Umahi for his good works in Ebonyi State which has made the state one of the best states in Nigeria.
He added that Ebonyi State would be the next Nollywood hub, because of its continuous development.
He further expressed joy on the warm reception that was given to him and his colleagues when they arrived the state.
He urged Engr. Umahi to give them his full support to ensure that Nollywood in Ebonyi State is a gigantic one.
The Chairman, AGN, Ebonyi State Branch, Mr. Ikechukwu Eke, commended the governor for making Ebonyi State the best among all the states, saying that over 30 movies have been shot in Ebonyi state in the year 2019 because of the infrastructural development seen in Ebonyi State unlike 7 or 10 movies that were seen before now.
He also pleaded with government officials to always allow them use their houses in production since the industry would add to the economy.
He said, “We always find it difficult to get location; houses, estates to shoot our movies. I’m pleading with you sir and ma, anytime we come to your house, do not pursue us away because we have a lot to offer.”
In response to their speeches, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Kenneth Ugbala representing the governor assured him of the support of Ebonyi State Government in ensuring that Nollywood in Ebonyi State grows higher, stating that Ebonyi has all it takes for them to carry out their activities in any part of the 13 Local Government Areas, adding that there are well constructed concrete pavements that lead to all the local government areas with maximum security since the industry would help in human development.
He said, “We are going to work with you to ensure that a lot of our youths who have developed interest in the entertainment industry are made available and are made the best of what they want to be. That is why the governor, Engr. David Umahi is not seeing your visit as an ordinary visit. It is a visit that is designed and divinely orchestrated to reposition the future of our children and we are going to work with you.”
Corroborating the SSG, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji, commended the Nollywood group for seeing Ebonyi State as the next hub of their activities, stating that infrastructure and more sophisticated security personnel are there to see that they are comfortable.
He added that the entertainment industry would help create jobs, wealth and raise human capital which would help boost the economy.
He said, “It is only in Ebonyi State that you will talk about lowest insecurity profile because the security architecture is well sophisticated. In addition to conventional security, we also have what we call the ‘Neighbourhood watch’ in the entire community. What we are going to do is to partner with you to see how we can empower the youths through creative industry.”
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Ogbaga also assured them of the full support of the State Government adding that the government would provide them all they may need.
The event which is held annually by AGN of Nigerian Movie Industry (Nollywood) was graced by many Nollywood stars and heroes like Lolo Mrs. Chinwe Owoh and many others.
Other government officials like Chief Donatus Njoku and top political big wigs were on hand to witness the occasion.
The event also featured many awards of honour to many dignitaries such include award to the Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi as the Best Governor, Hon. Felix Onyema Igboke as the Best LGA Chairman on Empowerment, Dr. Emmanuel Olisa Emeka Ogbu as the Best of the Nollywood backbone in Ebonyi State, Barr. Celement Omekannaya Odah as the best Performing Chairman On Security, Prof. John U .Eke as the Father of Nollywood, Mrs. Mary Igwe as the Best Supporting Actress and many others.
Dr. Emmanuel Emeka Ogbu thanked AGN for conducting such a wonderful event and also for according him the honour as the Backbone of Nollywood in Ebonyi State.
He urged the AGN and Nollywood in general to always go for talent hunt so as to get many unharnessed talented actors and actresses that abound in the state.
He regretted that lots of renowned Nollywood actors and actresses are dead and have no replacement, but the talent hunt would help get such people replaced.
The event featured performances from different artists and cultural dancers.
