The decomposing body of a commercial motorcycle rider and indigene of Ihie village in Ishiagu Autonomous community, Mr. Shedrack Chukwu, 28, allegedly killed on Friday evening 29th, November, 2019 by two suspected armed robbers was discovered three days later in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State.
Narrating the incident, Mr. Eboh Geoffery, a resident of the area said that the deceased was lured through his service by the accused persons who allegedly boarded his motorcycle at Mile 2, but along the line directed him to a track road where they shot him dead and made away with all his belongings.
Mr. Eboh said, “On a fateful day, the victim was approached by the two boys who disguised themselves as passengers and asked if he could take them to Akaeze community with the sum of N900 without knowing that they were targeting his motorcycle.”
“But immediately, he embarked on the journey, he was not seen again until three days later when his lifeless body was found in the bush.”
Mr. Eboh claimed that before the evil deed was noticed, one of the suspects said to be on the run was involved in a road accident with the victim’s motorcycle, but he was given medical assistance by his uncle, Chief Izuchukwu Nkama who later took the motorcycle to his compound at Mgbede Village in Akaeze where it was found and recovered through a tip-off.
He disclosed that the deceased, a fresh graduate of Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu was fending for himself with the motorcycle before he encountered his brutal end.
He said, “High degree of injuries found on late Shedrack’s body indicated that perhaps, they had severely beaten him before they eventually shot him at his forehead.”
Another resident, Mr. Chima Ugama told us that the prime suspect’s uncle had been arrested by the security personnel from Ivo Police Division in connection to the matter, while disclosing that instantly, the man was hurriedly taken to the State Police Headquarters, Abakaliki, to avert purported youth action who had wanted to attack him at the station.
He alleged that armed robbery and other related acts have been on the increase in the area in the recent period and thereby suggested that government at all levels should beef up security to forestall future occurrences.
Mr. Chima said, “The number of motorcyclists who had lost their motorcycles through this process is many; I can recall that around this time last year, one of them was killed by similar hoodlums, thus, we are not safe in this council area, if ordinary commercial motorcycle operators could be the main targets of rogues.”
We learned that the victim’s putrefied body had been interred following police directive as it could not be accepted by any morgue.
The suspect and his cohort who hails from Mpu Community in Aninri LGA of Enugu State had not been found as at the time of filing this report.
