Afikpo North, Ivo, Ohaozara LGAs Now Part Of Ebonyi Urban Centres

Following approval by the Ebonyi State House of Assembly for extension of the state urban centers, Afikpo North, Ivo and Ohaozara Local Government Areas have become part of the state’s urban areas.

The extension was a sequel to the letter from the state Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi to the House requesting for the approval to upgrade Afikpo North LGA, Ohaozara LGA and Ivo LGA to Urban Areas.

Consequently, the house during their plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Chief Francis Nwifuru on the 11th day of December 2019 approved the inclusion and subsequent upgrading as it is expected to bring proper physical town planning and robust economic boost to the local government areas and the state in general.

In another development, the House has given approval to the request of Memorandum of Agreement between FINTRAC Consulting Limited and Ebonyi State Government, also approved the appointment of Dr. Kiran Kumar as a consultant to Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, Uburu.

The Memorandum of Agreement empowers state government among other things to issue a letter of engagement to FINTRAC for the specific purpose of collecting unlimited tax liabilities of grant rent and land use charge among others.

FINTRAC on the other hand shall among other things act as a technical adviser between the state and the relevant federal government agency in negotiating the outstanding tax liability of grant rent and land use charge.

The House gave a nod to the sum of one billion, seven hundred and fifty-five million, three hundred and ten thousand, five hundred nairas only for the provision of 2019 Christmas welfare packages for Ebonyi people.

The economic mission to the Peoples Republic of China and India was to enable the state government to procure materials that would contribute to the economic growth of the state was as well approved.

The approvals came into effect through the motion moved by the leader of the House Mr. Victor Chukwu and seconded by member representing Afikpo South West constituency, Mr. Nkemka Onuma.

Earlier, the member representing Abakaliki North constituency, Mrs. Franca Okpo under matters of urgent public importance appealed for the reconstruction of Hatchery-NkalekeUnuhu road because of its deplorable state and seconded by member representing Ivo constituency, Mr. Oliver Osi.

In their resolve, the House asked the Chairman, House Committee on Infrastructure and Concession, Mr. Joseph Ununu to meet the Ebonyi State Road Maintenance Agency in order to repair the road.
