Man Beaten To Death During Wake-Keep

A petty trader, an indigene of Agbaja Unuhu village in Inyimegu Autonomous Community Mr. Nwibo Maduabuchi was allegedly clubbed to death by a man fondly called Pastor on Monday morning 9th November, 2019 in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State during a wake keep at Amagu village.

The victim’s father, Mr. Nwibo Akaba who spoke to our reporter amid sobs said that prior to the incident, the deceased was in his shop that situates at Mammy Market when a man believed to be his friend, Mr. Chikaodi Nkwede Mbam popularly known as ‘Agent of Darkness’ came and requested for his company to attend the wake-keep of late Fred Ulegu at Amagu village.

He disclosed that after much persuasion, late Maduabuchi succumbed to the suggestion and they left for the event without knowing that his friend and other men had allegedly conspired to end his life that day.

He said that upon their arrival at the event, one of the collaborators picked up quarrel with the deceased and based on their alleged plot, they engaged him in a fight, during the fight, Maduabuchi was hit at the back of his skull with an object suspected to be iron rod.

According to the old man, when Mr. Chikaodi and his group found out the magnitude of the injury inflicted on his son, they rushed the victim to an undisclosed hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Mr. Akaba further disclosed that it was after the accused persons had futilely tried to resuscitate the victim, Mr. Chikaodi was sent to return the corpse.

He said, “My son was lured by his kinsman, Mr. Chikaodi to the place where he was gruesomely killed and after they had perfected their evil deed, the same person brought the corpse to me with his tricycle.”

He said that as soon as the man arrived with the tricycle with his son’s lifeless body, he quickly intimated some co-residents and relatives who caught him and handed him over to police.

He expressed displeasure on how his son whom he described as an ‘epitome of peace’ could be killed in such manner.

He appealed to the government that the culprits should be handled in accordance with the law so that other persons would learn

A resident of the area, Mr. Cosmos Nwazu said that the root cause of the fracas could not be far from cult related matter and as a result advised that people should refrain from killing their fellow human beings.

We gathered that Mr. Chikaodi and five others already arrested in connection with the problem had been transferred to State Police Headquarters from Central Police Station.
