The Acting Chairman of Ihietutu Village, Chief Emeka Ogbonnaya has disbursed various items worth over N14m to not less than 245 persons selected across the eight component kindreds of the area on Saturday 1st December, 2019 at Ajali Play Ground in Ishiagu Autonomous Community, Ivo LGA.
Addressing newsmen during the event, Chief Emeka Ogbonnaya, the Caretaker Chairman of the village told Citizens’ Advocate that his action was prompted by the need to engage his people meaningfully which would produce multiplier effect by taking their minds away from illegal activities.
He said that other reason was to enable the villagers become relieved over the effect of crises that ravaged the area before his emergence and in order to achieve this target, he deemed it necessary to empower the people with the following items: 40 brand new motorcycles, 17 sewing machines, 10 hair driers for hair stylists, other valuables and supports that worth over N14m.
He said that based on his passion for the people and love for the indigents; 150 widows were provided with fathoms of wrapper each together with blouse so that they would feel the positive impact of his administration.
He said, “It has been my earnest plan to keep our youths busy so that they will not indulge in any illegal activity, this is what motivated me towards providing them with all the items.”
The Chairman further disclosed that the gesture was also extended to 14 persons who do not have interest in education as they were registered for apprenticeship in various occupations which include tiling, plumbing, electrical installation, among others.
According to Chief Emeka, he had also printed 30,000 of 40 leaves exercise books which were distributed to primary school pupils and secondary schools students in the area as part of his leadership gesture.
He added that within these 11 months of his administration, he had constructed many drainages and culverts in the area to control erosion and flooding.
He said he had also constructed accessible road to fallow hectares of land to enable the owners utilize their properties.
He thanked all the people for being peaceful and charged his counterparts to strive towards affecting lives positively in line with the leadership pattern of Governor Umahi.
The Interim Vice Chairman, Mr. Isaac Orji and the Youth President, Prince Bernard Chukwu respectively said that the event would leave an indelible mark on the villagers, as they never had it so good.
They further charged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the support in such a way that others could be established through them and expressed happiness over the brotherly love found among the residents.
The Assistant Secretary, Mr. Simeon Chukwu described the Chairman as a ‘replica of generosity’ who some years back singlehandedly sponsored electricity project that cost approximately N4m.
Mr. Simeon said, “There was a time when everyone was at loggerhead with one another without any justifiable cause, but today through the effort of Chief Emeka, the reverse is the case as both kindred and village meetings have been restored.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ruth Okochi expressed happiness over the sewing machine given to her and prayed for abundant blessings for the donor while adding that the gesture was the first of its kind since the existence of the area.
She also charged other beneficiaries to use the empowerment in such a way that it would ameliorate their financial plight.
Mrs. Pricilia Chukwu , a widow and beneficiary told us that she had been clothed by the chairman through the fathoms of wrapper and blouse provided for her.
She disclosed that the gesture was extended to all the widows in the village and thereby thanked the benefactor for the kindness.
“The entire widows in Ihietutu Village have not been remembered in this manner in the past, we pray for the chairman’s long life and progress” she said.
Besides all the work enumerated above, Citizens’ Advocate gathered that a drum of low tension electricity wire has already been procured by the chairman to extend light to more residents.
