EBSU Alumni Honour Pioneer, Past VCs, 10 Others

The Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Abakaliki Alumni association has honoured the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Fidelis Ogah and the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Idike in appreciation for their contributions to development of their alma mater.

The honour in form of award for excellence was bestowed on them in Abakaliki during send off party organized by the members of EBSU alumni in accordance to the saying that honour be given to who it is due.

The Association also honoured Prof Selena Oko, the Pioneer Deputy VC, Prof Egwu U. Egwu, the 2nd Deputy VC, Prof  E.O. Ekumankama, the 3rd Deputy VC, Barr Harrison Onwe Pioneer Registrar and Monday Okoro Pioneer Bursar.

Others honoured include Sir Christian Ezeh the University 2nd Registrar, Dr Sam Nte Egwu the 3rd Registrar, Mr. Chris Ngwuta 2nd Bursar, Mr. Livinus Nwali pioneer university librarian and Mr. Friday Ibiam the 2nd University librarian.

Speaking at the occasion, the National President of the alumni, Mr. Kenneth Ereke applauded all the awardees for their efforts to humanity and to the university in particular and prayed God to reward them abundantly.

Mr. Kenneth said, “The administration of Prof Ogah represents that of inclusiveness, participatory government and purposeful leadership. He started with nothing, but with his sheer determination, the university became one of the universities to reckon with.”

“One peculiar thing about Idike’s administration was his emphasis on judicious financial management. Your administrations not only improved research and learning but also created a stress free learning environment for our dear students.”

“With all my heart and with the blessings of all alumni members present, I wish you all a contented and joyous retired life. Dear highly revered former Vice Chancellors and your principal officers, we have not called you to give you what you have not gotten in life. For we know quite well that God ‘s grace abounds in your life, so we may not be able to give you what you have not seen or owned in life. We have called you to say thank you for dedicating your efforts in building our alma mater.”

“We are happy to inform you that those lights given to us are still shining brighter today. Our alumni members are doing great in various fields of endeavors; Civil Service, businesses even politics.”

“To our present Vice Chancellor, thank you for providing the needed environment for this association to thrive. You are indeed a father. Your administrative ingenuity and fatherly disposition have really made our alumni association stronger.

Responding , Professor Idike on behalf of other awardees  thanked the alumni for the honour and assured them that the honour shall spur them to do more for the progress of the University.

The EBSUAA National Secretary, Chief Sunday Nwangele thanked all the former principal officers for being physically present in the ceremony and commended them for their positive contributions in development of the University.
