The election which held penultimate Monday 2nd December,2019 at the state Independent National Electoral Commission Abakaliki, the state Capital was witnessed by over fifty political parties.
Earlier, the electoral presiding officer, Hon. Frank Igwebuike had warned the electorate against politics of rancour and bitterness but to vote any credible candidate of their choice who will take the council to greater height.
Our reporter gathered that some aspirants who were vying for some positions absented themselves without notifying the council.
It was also learnt that the newly elected leaders were drawn from twelve different political parties.
They are as follows Hon. Nwogba Morgan chairman, Mr. Esheya Kelvin secretary, Mr. Njoku Evans deputy chairman (1), Chief Nwobegu Moses deputy chairman (2), Evang. Kate Ohakam financial secretary, Barr. Oko Ewaenyim legal adviser, Mrs. Veronica Okafor audit control officer, Mr. Edeh Pascal publicity secretary, Engr. Elekwachi Chinedum treasurer, Comr. Eze Ifeoma organizing and welfare secretary, Mrs. Ude Florence gender and disability adviser and Hon Nchita Samuel.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Hon. Nwogba Morgan thanked the council for finding him worthy to lead and promised to carry every member along.
“Open door, transparency, accountability and dedication to duty will be my watch word”, he said.
He called on the entire members of the council to give him their maximum support, noting that a tree cannot make a forest.
He appreciated the immediate past chairman, Mrs. Adibe Nwafor for setting the pace of excellence in which the new leaders will build their legacies.
He also applauded the state Governor Engr. David Umahi for giving them a level playing ground to operate in the state.
On her part, the immediate past chairman of the council Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor expressed satisfaction over the smooth running of the election and promised to give them her necessary support.
She urged them to follow the foot print she had laid in the council during her own leadership and work together as one irrespective of their party differences.
She admonished them to be transparent and accountable at all time for the success of their leadership.
In an interview, the People Democratic Party State Chairman, Hon. Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi described the election as peaceful, free and fair as no form of obstruction was witnessed.
