Two brothers, Mr. Ezekiel and Chukwuebuka Nwonumara narrowly escaped being crushed to death by a tipper on Saturday 21st December at Office-Igbakpo in Izzi LGA.
One of the victims while narrating the ordeal said that it was around 7:30 pm when he was driving to his house with his brother when a tipper with the plate number of AA21AFTU knocked them out of the road from the rear at Ogbuefi Junction.
The tipper driver that knocked them down thought they were dead and quickly jumped out through his window and ran for his life to escape being lynched.
He said that the tippers were two, the first one was towing the second one but as the two tippers were going, the chain of the towing tipper that was on speed suddenly broke and the second tipper started moving unmanned.
He said that since the tipper was going unmanned, it sped off to Ogbuefi Junction and crashed into Monday Igbeali’s (Olisa) shop and nearly killed Ezinne Nwewe.
According to an eyewitness, Mr. Nwewe Okezie said that people were at Ogbuefi Junction discussing Christmas celebration and some of them were drinking before the unmanned tipper came and destroyed Olisa’s shop.
Mr. Okezie also said that the tipper that crashed into Olisa’s shop almost killed his sister, but for God’s protection, she managed to lie down and the tipper passed across and did not kill her.
He said, “After the tipper lost control, it met his 6 years old sister, Ezinne where she was standing, but God made her lie down, the tipper passed over her and crashed into Olisa’s barbing saloon.”
He said immediately the vehicle crashed into the building, the generator he was using caught fire with the tipper but people were able to put out the fire before it got out of hand.
