Youths Go Wild Over Brutal Killing of Kinsman…Burnt House, Properties of Family of Suspect

The recent gruesome killing of a petty trader fondly called “Action” in far away Benin City by his kinsman, Mr. Pius Igwe was said to have resulted to rampage in Amakporo Village on 25th December 2019 when the victim’s lifeless body was brought back to his village in Igboeze Onicha, Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State.

A resident of the area, Mr. Jehoshaphat Inyima told Citizens’ Advocate that the trouble started prior to Christmas at a beer parlor where both the deceased and the alleged killer and others were drinking in Edo State.

He said that in the process, Mr. Igwe had a disagreement with the victim that led to a fight, and through people’s intervention, the duo was separated, but before they were separated, the deceased had beaten Mr. Igwe blue-black, leaving Mr. Igwe’s ego bruised and embarrassed.

 

Killing of Kinsman

According to him, shortly after the fracas, the deceased returned to his house hoping through people’s mediation, peace had been restored between them, without knowing that Mr. Igwe had sworn to deal with him.

Mr. Inyima said that while the victim was in his apartment, his kinsman in fury suddenly barged in and stabbed him intermittently with a broken bottle until he sustained high degree of injuries.

Mr. Igwe when satisfied with his evil mission left the man in the pool of his own blood and fled, but through the help of some sympathizers, Action was rushed to a hospital where doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Mr. Inyima said, “Immediately after the fight and some people mediated into their matter, Action returned to his house without being apprehensive of any misfortune, but suddenly he was attacked and killed by Mr. Pius Igwe.”

Another resident, Mrs. Nkemdirim Ugwu claimed that the accused person’s action was stimulated by the verbal contribution and morale encouragement of his friend, Mr. Afunwa Ogbu who allegedly blamed the killer for allowing himself to be humiliated by a younger person.

Killing of Kinsman

According to her, it was in the accused person’s quest to put out shame associated with his defeat that he took up the weapon of destruction and killed his kinsman.

She added that on the fateful day which the victim’s corpse was brought home at Amakporo Onicha, some youths went wield and thereby set ablaze a bungalow building belonging to the Mr. Igwe’s father with all the valuables therein.

She said that both Mr. Igwe’s paternal uncle and Mr. Ogbu’s father were not left out in the youths’ action as their properties were damaged too.
