The 13th biennial convention of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), Enugu Grand Commandery has come to an end with a charge from the Grand President, Brig-Gen Gilbert Obu for all to join hands to ensure the realization of the Abakaliki Grand Commandery.
The Abakaliki Grand commandery is expected to be carved out from Enugu Grand Commandery as a way of diversifying and propagating the knighthood to the area now known as Ebonyi State and beyond.
In his address at the Convention held at the St Augustine’s Seminary, Ezzangbo, Ebonyi State from December 12 to 14, 2019, the Grand President, Brig-Gen Obu enjoined all to work assiduously towards the realization of the proposed Abakaliki Grand commandery.
He identified the KSJI College at Agba in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as one of the greatest challenges of the Order and appealed to members to ensure the school did not die but rather remain an enduring legacy to posterity.
According to the Grand President, the Grand Convention is a period to fraternize and take stock of activities of the past two years, adding that delegates should take advantage of the convention to make themselves better knights.
The convention which was attended by delegates from the 22 commanderies and 14 Laux commanderies had as its theme: “United in faith for God’s work”.
Highlights of the convention include a lecture delivered by the Chaplain Regiment Three, Enugu Grand Commandery, Noble Rev. Fr. Major Cyprian Agina, drill, sword manual, muster parade, and other sporting competitions.
There was also mass for the dead at St Philomena’s Parish, Ezzangbo.
Trophies were also presented to members and commanderies who participated in the different competitions.
