It is Useless for Us to Have Factions –Onu

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu on Thursday 2nd January, 2020 has appealed to aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the zone to forgive and join hands to restructure the party so that they can win more states come 2023 because it is useless for them as a party to have factions.

In southeast, the party disunity seems to be on the high Side especially in Ebonyi as factions loyal to the minister and that of former Senator Ucha have refused to come together and work in unity even when the Onu’s faction is taking the lead in activities of the party in the state.

Onu Spoke in Uburu Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, during an enlarged APC stakeholders meeting which was held in his compound.

He noted that it was very important for the party members both big and small to come together and work as a team so that the SouthEast will feel the change of APC lead government.

He said, “I will like to appeal to all our members in the SouthEast, please no matter how the party offended you, no matter what anybody may have done against you, please try and forgive because all of us are Christians. We believe very strongly when offended if we forgive that we are lifting even a great burden from ourselves.”

“We no longer want to have factions, we have seen that in Nigeria, the APC is the governing party and this party is very strong and will keep governing Nigeria for a long time to come.

“But in the South East geo-political zone, we are the only zone without a Governor elected on the platform of APC.”

“So, we want a change. We have good people representing us at the National working committee of our great party, they have been giving us good leadership and we believe very strongly that if we keep supporting them with what I have seen, by 2023 we should be aiming at a minimum of three Governors elected on the platform of the APC.”

“We will have majority of the seats in the National Assembly from the South East. We will also have majority of the seats at the state Assemblies in our various states so that we will be producing a minimum of 3 speakers. Once we do this it will help us, nobody will ever say that the South East does not make contributions to the party”, Onu said

The party leaders lamented that the opposition in the zone is taking the glory for achievements of the party and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He used the medium to announce that stakeholders of the party shall visit the Nnamdi Azikwe International airport and other projects of Mr. President in the zone on Saturday for project inspection.

Former Governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime in his own submission said leaders of the party in the zone are not properly promoting the numerous infrastructural developments of the party across the region.

He noted that it was uncalled for them to allow the PDP governors in the zone, take advantage of their seeming relationship with the President and posed as though they were the ones that brought the projects being executed by the Buhari regime.

“A lot is happening under this federal government, but our people don’t know about them. There was a surprise in this festive period. As a matter of fact, one can drive from Enugu to Aba, hitch-free without some traffic hurdles. Although there are some portions of the road that are still bad, but it’s better than what we had before.

The PDP is taking glory for the achievements of the APC government. Something they could not do in 16 years, now those things are being done and they are now posing as if they are the ones doing them. We need to create a lot of awareness to let our people know what is going on,” Chime said.

Earlier in his contribution, member representing Ezza South / Ikwo,Hon. Chinedu Ogah appealed to the party chairmen to honour leaders of the party who have made sacrifices for the growth of the party.

He lamented that there are factions in some states and the party cannot survive with division, that Stakeholders should swallow their ego and move the party forward.

Hon. Ogah called on the SouthEast Vice Chairman of APC to convey a meeting and strategies on how to take up the House of representatives’ election coming up in Imo state.”APC has what it takes to win the two national assembly elections in Imo state.

Zonal Vice chairman of the party,Emma Eneukwu, in his response, said the party will visit states to reconcile because most of the party chieftain were offended. And that APC will form a committee for the Imo state election.
