Ebonyi State Government Tuesday said it would undertake the Educational career of three surviving children of the slain Abia-based Ebonyi business couple, Mr. Darlington Uzonwa and Mrs Chinyere Uzonwa.
The couple were shot dead by devil incarnate robbery gang along Secretariat Road Umuahia on 25th January, 2020 after collecting their money and other valuables while their children who were with them in the car survived the robbers bullet shots.
The slain couple were, led to mother earth last Saturday 7th March, 2020 in their home town, Ugwuegu community in Afikpo North Local Government Areaof Ebonyi State.
Sympathizing with the family, the Governor, Engr. David Umahi invited the children of the victims and their Guardians to Government House Abakaliki for a meeting on how to ensure brighter future for the kids.
The Governor who expressed shock and sadness over the ugly incident condoled with the family and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to overcome the shock.
He urged the children not to loose hope in life as God already has plans for them.
Umahi said, “Do not over sorrow, but allow the peace of God to comfort you.”
The Governor announced a donation of N3 million succour for the secondary Education of the children as well as their up-keep.
He promised that the State Government would cater for the university Education of the children once they were through with secondary school.
The orphans are, Priscillia,17, Solomon ,16 and Judith 12 in Senior Secondary School (SSS)ll, SSS l, and JSS 1 respectively.
Umahi urged them not to despair but repose confidence in God, assuring them that the State would not abandon them.
He said, “Be courageous. I stand with you. Before leaving office, I will make sure I pay for your university education.”
The Governor urged them to be guided by the fear of God and commit their future totally into God’s care, who knows how to judge the criminals responsible for the untimely death of their parents.
Priscillia, daughter of the deceased in her response thanked the Governor for coming to their rescue.
She said they would be eternally grateful to Gov. Umahi for the kind gesture, adding that they will not disappoint the State wherever they find themselves.
Their uncle, Mr. Gregory Uzonwa thanked the Governor for showing such uncommon love for the deceased family.
He said the Governor’s gesture would go a long way in assisting the family to overcome the trauma of the tragedy.
Mr. Uzonwa said, “Today we have seen the biblical David in Ebonyi. You have given us hope when the Iroko of our family fell down. You have lifted our spirit and rekindled our hope. God will show you uncommon favour for this gesture.”
He assured that the State Governments’ magnanimity will be judiciously used.
Earlier in a homily during the funeral mass on Saturday, Rev Fr. Nelson Ezeala regretted that the couple were cut down in their prime.
He also warned against victimization of the children and denial of their rights.
The Catholic Priest urged relatives and friends of the deceased couple to rally round the children to ensure that they get the best education and upbringing which was what the parents always wanted for them.Follow us
