The Federal House of Representatives has unanimously granted the motion seeking for the construction of link bridge and rehabilitation of Abakaliki -Ikwo-Obubra Road to connect Ebonyi and Cross Rivers States.
The motion presented by Hon. Chinedu Nweke Ogah, representing Ezza South /Ikwo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State urged the House to mandate the Federal Government to commence reconstruction of the road to guarantee efficient transportation system that would also help farmers and industrialists as well as commuters to move their products from one place to the other.
Hon. Ogah explained that Ebonyi and Cross Rivers States are endowed with abundant mineral resources hence the need to boost relations between the two states.
He expressed worries that the road if not rehabilitated, would pose serious threat to lives of innocent persons as criminals would take advantage of the deplorable condition of the road to unleash mayhem on unsuspecting commuters.
He buttressed that the international market opened along the African Trans Saharan way would serve as the economic hub of Africa stating that the shortness of the road to Cross Rivers State from Abakaliki is an added advantage that will cement the economic ties of both states.
Speaker Gbajabiamila while putting the motion into voice votes enunciated the socio-political and economic needs of the road and mandated all relevant agencies of the Federal government to commence work on the road.
