An Indian national who works with Royal Salt company in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and four other persons have been placed on covid -19 self- observation (isolation)in Abakaliki.
This is part of the precautionary measures to prevent the pandemic in Ebonyi.
The chairman, Covid 19 task force team in the State, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State disclosed this in Abakaliki while briefing Journalists on recent developments in the state on the Coronavirus outbreak.
Umahi said the Indian man arrived the country recently and another suspect, was a staff of First Bank who had contact with a returnee.
According to him, 4 persons(including the Indian) came into the state from different countries that have cases of the novel Coronavirus while one person is said to have had contact with a returnee.
That the staff of First Bank in Abakaliki visited his mother in Anambra, who just came back from one of the countries with the outbreak.
“We send health personnel to check their vitals everyday and so far they are not showing any symptoms. The Indian also has a nurse staying with him and monitoring him, so far his vitals are normal”, he said
In another development, the Governor said that he has ordered the Ezza South and Ikwo Council Chairmen to work with security agencies in their areas for immediate arrest of families that had burial in the two local Governments on Friday.
That the arrest would serve as a lesson to other families that would disobey government order by organizating burial, wedding or any form of social gatherings.
This is because the State government through the Secretary to the State Government Kenneth ugbala had last week Monday gave a directive banning burial, wedding ceremonies, conferences and other social activities in the state.
He emphasized that all those behind the conduct of the burial no matter their positions in the society must be arrested.
He also said the police should arrest the mortuary attendant at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo who released the corpse to the family for burial.
He charged 13 council Chairmen alongside Development Center Coordinators in Ebonyi to move round the rural communities to ensure that no burial or wedding is conducted in the state on Saturday.
Failure to adhere to the directive, he will sanction anyone that compromise to the directive .
On the intra state travel ban, the Governor said from 28 March, transporters loading travellers within the 13 council areas of the State shall be using the State stadium as park.
The Governor visited banks, pharmaceutical shops, hotels during the sensitization and monitoring together with other members of the task force team.
