Do not Panic Over Coronavirus – Dr Achi Tells Ebonyians

The permanent secretary, ministry of Health Dr. Christian Achi who also doubled as the vice chairman of the action committee on the prevention and control of coronavirus in Ebonyi State has advised Ebonyians not to panic over the pandemic that ravages the world, coronavirus.
In a way to curtail the spread of the deadly corona virus, Ebonyi State government has expressed its preparedness to give run to the scourge corona virus ravaging the country.
Dr. Achi who also doubled as the vice chairman of the action committee on the prevention and control of coronavirus in Ebonyi State made this clear to journalists in Abakaliki during a wide stakeholders meeting involving all the local government chairmen, development center coordinators and health workers on the proactive measures taken by the state government to prevent the disease from entering the state.
He said, “Ebonyi state is well prepared to fight against the virus, courtesy of our dear governor Engr. David Umahi. Immediately the outbreak of the corona virus disease was announced on the 7th of January 2020, our dear governor in his proactive measures decided to set up a central committee to ensure the disease does not enter the state.”
“There are a lot of foreigners that are coming to this state, we have set up check points at the entrances of the state where everybody coming to this state are screened properly using sanitizer and infrared thermometer, also we have an isolation treatment center at unity square where confirmed cases will be treated. We went ahead to procure seven buses so that health workers will easily move around and monitor the state to ensure that the virus is controlled.”
He maintained that he would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that no case was recorded in the state, pointing out that even when no case has been recorded in the place that the people should discourage self-medication.
However, the executive secretary of Ebonyi state primary health care development agency, Dr. James Okata Nwali enumerated some of the symptoms of the virus which include high fever, weakness, cough, uncontrollable sneezing among others.
He said, “As for now, we have not recorded any case in Ebonyi state but we decided to sensitize our road transport workers to ensure that everybody entering park washed their hands with running water and proper sanitization.”
He stated that adequate measure has been put in place to sweet off the virus in the state shold there be any case.
He further said that in no distance time, Ebonyi State will launch free health insurance scheme where patients will receive treatment free of charge and state government has mapped out one primary health center per each ward to render 24 hours free qualitative services to Ebonyians.
Also, in his reaction, the chairman of Ikwo LGA Hon. John Nnabo invented the idea of using ashes and salt as one of the measures to combat the virus.
He charged Ebonyians to always keep their surroundings clean and pay attention to health workers and federal government to avoid the scourge of the virus.
The commissioner for Grant and Donor Agency, Dr. Sunday Nwangele admonished people to shun hand shaking, hugging and overcrowded area.
He encouraged Health workers to discharge their duties diligently and never hesitate to report any suspected cases of the virus for proper diagnoses and treatment.
