Education Commissioner Recalls ZIEs, AIEs to Ensure Professionalism

By Charles Nwankwo

Ebonyi state Commissioner for Education Dr. Onyebuchi Chima has recalled all the Zonal Inspectors of Education (ZIEs) and the Area Inspectors of Education (AIEs) in Ebonyi state, for rendering unprofessional services in their respective areas of work.
Dr. Chima on 23rd March 2020 declared this during a roundtable meeting with the ZIEs and the AIEs at the Ministry of Education, Centenary City Abakaliki.
The Commissioner said that his line of action has been to achieve His Excellency the Governor of Ebonyi state Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi’s mission to standardize Education in Ebonyi state.
He said that most of them do not make simple sentences neither do they know the number of public and private schools in their areas of coverage, emphasizing that most of the ZIEs and AIEs stay at home while those that supervise schools do not vigorously engage in the supervision as they merely sign school visitors’ books and nothing more.
As one of the measures to identify the incompetents and the big bad eggs among them, the Commissioner expressed his determination to conduct quality assurance text for the ZIEs and AIEs in the Ministry.
Dr. Chima opined that those that may not do well in the exam shall be posted to work where he/she may fit in the Ministry no more a field worker.
The Commissioner instantly directed the administrative department to post one of the AIEs who couldn’t answer a simple question asked her by the Commissioner at the roundtable discussion.
In his remark, the Director Quality Assurance Department, Barrister Ngwuta applauded the action of the Commissioner, stating that it is embarrassing to have unqualified staff as field officers that cannot define the work they claimed doing in the field.
Citizens’ Advocate learnt that the quality assurance exam will be on the table for the ZIEs and the AIEs at any possible date but must be communicated to them early enough.
